evilcatfish Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Meh, whatever. Doesn't really affect me that much since most of my tackle is bought at TW, Monster, and other smaller retailers Champ188 1
crazy4fishin Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Ever seen how an Amazon warehouse works? There's an awful lot of automation going on there. But they also employ about 150,000 people.....BPS is 22,000, mostly part time and seasonal - and Moguy you are right about the automation and the innovation that goes on in that company. But there is a place for everything - there will be those that will buy at brick n mortar and those that will buy on line...I, for one, do both. It just fits my life style....one thing that I do like is order on line and have shipped to store to save shipping $$$. Ness thanks for the explanation on the chart - very interesting.....being from Nebraska and growing up around Cabela's all my life I hate to see anything to happen to that company. They are the town out in western NE where no one would have a job if it wasn't for them. C4F shark bait 1 Crazy4fishinA Cornhusker
ness Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 The folks that need to worry are the mid/high-level management guys. They are the ones that'll get cut if the companies combine. Saw an article that BPS has engaged a banker to help them raise money. Johnny may be worth $4 billion, but it's not in cash -- it's in stuff. If BPS is gonna buy Cabela's outright it will cost them north of $3 billion in cash. John
MOPanfisher Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 BPS may not be the best employer around but they sure have employees a lot of college kids, including me for a while. Some things I have no problem buying on line others like rods and reels I aint buying it if I can't hold it in my hand and twitch it. Also more and more I enjoy going into smaller businesses like SFO and just yesterday Fin and Feather in Spfld. I enjoy talking with them about things like floating flat creek or crappie fishing on Pomme. One of my good friends is employed at Cabelas, he is a catalog photo and layout guy. Would hate to see his life disrupted. Chief Grey Bear, shark bait and ness 3

With the new drone delivery service at Amazon, you could put in your order while you're on the ramp, and have your Whopper Plopper delivered right to your boat!
Quillback Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 With the new drone delivery service at Amazon, you could put in your order while you're on the ramp, and have your Whopper Plopper delivered right to your boat! Except that those Ploppers are never in stock. Best delivery system in the world is useless if you don't have inventory.
Quillback Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 . They are the town out in western NE where no one would have a job if it wasn't for them. C4F You mean the store in Kearney? I think that's the name of the town. There you are cruising down the interstate in the middle of nowhere Nebraska, and out in the middle of the plains that Cabelas store appears with it's walkway bridge across the interstate. Pretty neat.

I wonder if that makes up for all store fronts that have been lost? MOPanfisher Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 The main store is in Sidney NE. Fist I stopped there on the way to Yellowstone was in 1991 and it was new and nothing around. Last time I was out to visit my friend it looked like the town had up and move out around the store. At first it was pretty cool, then we got to calling it Bass Pro West, probably would have gotten us thrown out. My buddy talked to someone in Sept of 91 when we stopped and in January of 92 was hired on full time. We laughed because I was wearing an El cheapo bass pro ball cap when we entered the store. Manager on duty happened to be standing there and said "if you will put that hat in the trash I will give you a good Cabelas hat. I wanted out wearing a Cabelas hat. At that time few customwrs.in the store at any given time, and customer.service was outstanding much busier place now.
