Quillback Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 That's it, Sidney NE. Never have been in the store, but have driven by it a couple of times.
merc1997 Bo Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 chief and moguy, neither one of you never order anything on-line?? and, i guess that cabela's and bps warehouses have no automation. what about how cars are produced, processed food is made, how banking is done, ect. facets of automation is a fact of modernization. how do you think, most fishing lures are produced for the most part? we are conversing right now in a form of automation. just sayin'. bo

I used to get some collectables off of EBay. I haven't even done that in the last few years. I'm just not a big fan of ordering online. Maybe a book here and there. Most of them out of print. There is one I'm looking for now. It's Western Yesterday's: South Park Railroaders; Vol: XI by Forest Crossen. Stuck in the old gen I guess. Im not against automation. It makes life easier. I love Amazon Prime. It's just that you said online businesses have employees too and while they do I don't see many robots moving around the aisles at BPS and Cabelas stocking shelves and helping customers. While I doubt that TW has as much automation as Amazon does I'm sure it's not all done by humans. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Pepe Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 It looks, to me, like a play for JM and Cabelas to roll up a deal with a much larger investor like Berkshire Hathaway. By pulling the diverse geographic areas and product lines under single management they have opportunity to increase overall profitability and limit the market. It appears that the retail marketplace for outdoor products requires strong online and physical presence. Inventory management has to be a challenge. Suddenly something is hugely popular and everyone wants a half dozen while the products that you bought an entire shipload of (from China) stays on the shelves. Consolidation makes market sense to me. But, as usual, I expect it will not benefit employees.

Can't tell you how many boat hulls I've scanned for them over the years. They aren't afraid to spend money on technology. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
dtrs5kprs Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Honestly, the whole thing sounded like a bad April Fool's joke when I read about it for the first time. Guess it would answer the Q about whether BPS is going to let Cabela's continue to sell Ranger boats.

Gavin Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Makes perfect sense. Buyout your major competitor and increase your market share. It will suck for us as consumers because our range of choices will go down considerably. Champ188 and Mitch f 2
