I'm there with you by choice.   Using a bunch of high tech gadgetry to find and catch fish and to find my way home takes something away from the experience for me.   I guess in the end I don't want to be a slave to any more gizmo's than is necessary.   A guy that relies heavily on electronics for too long becomes lost without them, and that's not where I wanna be.

I replaced my dead unit this summer, went all last summer without a working depthinder.  I bought a cheap one, less than $100 for console mount and haven't yet bought one for front, although there have been times a GPS would have been handy for making crappie brushpiles not quite willing to go there yet.

Also seems that when a company is sold or taken over and things change there will be a period where quality drops or seems to  but then they get the new crew and equip up to speed and.quality gets better.

My lowrance Mark 4HMDI was only 129.99 at BPS and it has GPS in it...I would like a little something bigger though like either a helix 7 or helix 5 for the console.

176Champ, I fish out of a 1986 Cajun 17' 6" with a 1989 150 Johnson GT.  I have a lowrance 1240A in dash flasher and an Eagle Fish Mark 480 up front.  I find that I use the flasher when I am running the big motor and I use the Eagle to tell me the water temperature.  Then I pound the banks out to 20'.  While those who can use their electronics to catch huge sacks have fun doing it, I am just a common guy who sees a tree laying in the water and I have to throw a lure at it. There is room for all of us.

I am the same, use my graphs for reference and water temp. I'll never use them to try and find fish before I wet a line.

That IMO takes all the challenge out of fishing, I love the challenge and purest aspect of finding and inticing them to strike by using weather conditions, temp and seasonal changes to catch fish. Otherwise might as well be fishing in a barrel. To each his own.

Amen fishing wrench! The other shame of all of this is the fact that if anyone of these nay sayers were offered a deal with Johnny Morris I would almost bet anyone of them would take it. (Im sure I'll get a "not me" response from that) I can tell you I know a few people who have worked for him for a very long time and/or currently still do.  All three of the people that i know who work for him absolutely love him as a boss. I'm sure you can find those who don't like him but they are either jealous or want something for nothing or just simply choose to be unhappy in life. The shame of all of this is the fact that this is supposed to a fishing forum.  You could probably go back to its beginning and see that most information in the past was positive fishing information. Now more than what should be, is negative. I just wish all you nay sayers would just leave the forum and come back when you can grow the hell up and if that never happens (the growing up part) then i wish you all luck.  Yes some of you have a lot to offer but who gives a s#!t  anymore. I would rather just hear how someone had a great time fishing and how they caught them than to listen to you freaking cry babies whine about stupid s#!t.  Even if they aren't a "great" fisherman.  The fact of the matter is this...if you cry babies out there started a business and had opportunities for your business to grow you wouldn't just stop the possible growth of your business and say that's too greedy. No you would continue to allow your business to flourish just as he does.

Well I can't even pretend to understand people that continue to capitalize on their fortunes long after they've made enough to set themselves and their kids/grandkids up for a lifetime.   But blaming JM for the alleged demise of Ranger is ignorant.   If you are gonna blame anyone then blame the former owners of Ranger for not giving a s#it about the quality of the name going forward.
