I use it for jerkbaits and 10 ft diving cranks. The black carbonlite rods were great too. I have several of them. I have no idea why they changed the composition of them and made them white. The new ones suck. It sucks when companies go out and ruin a good thing. I think the reason why they did away with the Pro Qualifier lineup of rods was that they had just too many models within the same price point range. They had the Extreme's and Carbon Lites at 99.99, PQ's and Bionic Blades at like at like 79.99 and then other lower end rods from 39.99 on down. As far the going to a white rod I think that is just trying to get in on the latest fishing "fashion trend" that was made popular by the Veritas and Micro Magics. Also, rods are getting LIGHTER and LIGHTER with increased graphite modulus counts which is great for sensitivity but also comes at the cost of brittleness and durability. IM6 rods you can bend nearly in half and they won't break. Try that with the newer IM10+ or other super high modulus rods....not so much. I have an older BPS Extreme Rod I picked up on sale 7ish years ago and it's been a good rod that can handle a wide variety of baits. I also have the older generation 7'10 Cranking Stick before the newest model and I have no complaints about that either other than being a tad heavy. But when you are flinging deep cranks, 10XD's and 2+ oz swimbaits on it rod weight kind of becomes somewhat irrelevant.
fishinwrench Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Yeah ! Who started the WHITE ROD thing ? Somebody needs kicked in the sack over that. big c and dtrs5kprs 2

crazy4fishin Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Didn't Duckett start the white rod thing? Skeet Reese is yellow......Rick Clunn is or was blue. I figure no matter the color that I can be just as challenged to catch fish....I guess it is not the equipment....who knew? I will admit I do like both the PQ and the Lews reels and good info on the braking Champ....I have found that mine (Lews) can cast a country mile....the problem is that the mile of line is all balled up in my hand! Seth Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 BPS Pro Qualifier baitcasters are the best bang for your buck reel on the market when you can catch them on sale for $80. I stocked up on them last winter when they had them for $50. After fishing with them pretty hard for the past year, I was very impressed with them. I'm also fond of their Microlite graphite rods. BPS hunting gear leaves a lot to be desired though IMO. I recently picked up a Lew's Speed spool tournament pro and got to try it out this past Saturday. It out throws my PQ's by quite a bit and the drag is a lot nicer, but that's about the only thing I noticed to really mattered to me. The 2oz weight difference wasn't noticeable to me. Most of my fishing is in close quarters to cover so I don't use the casting distance very often. The Lew's will definitely be the reel of choice when it comes to jerkbaiting and WTD topwaters when I actually need the distance.

I can only use my Lews for pitching jigs & spoons because I'm not very smart. I hope that I didn't suggest or insinuate that anyone wasn't very smart. That was certainly not my intention. My "system" such as it is on setting my Lew's reels is to have two of the four centrifugal brakes pulled out (engaged) and two pushed in. I set the mag adjustment to about 3. From there, I use the spool tension knob on the right side of the reel to get my spool adjusted to where I can throw as far as I need but not so loose that it wants to backlash every cast. big c 1

cheesemaster Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 That's how I have my centrifugal brakes set also. I use the magnetic dial for wind but keep it at 2 or 3 and the tension knob so that when my rod is at about 45 degrees when the button is pushed my lure slowly drops to the ground with just a little free spool after the lure hits the ground.
