Getting away from human beings is one of the reasons I fish lol. Ive actually only fished a ned rig a few times, and had better luck with other stuff, but the notion that gear needs to be expensive to be good/effective is ridiculous. Maybe im not all that effective at fishing...but i seem to have a good time fishing and my most expensive rod and reel combo is 200 dollars, and my favorite one is 100, i feel fortunate that i have the means to have several rods and reels and have the money to spend on it. That said, I think its BS that people think they cant do well cheap gear. Of course its best to get what you can afford, but lots of people simply cant afford the best. If you know how to catch fish the gear is totally ancillary. You can get a LOT of fishing done with a 7 ft med spinning rod and a size 35 spinning reel for less than 100 dollars. tho1mas 1

fishinwrench Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 One thing to keep in mind is that the "cheap" gear of today is still better than than the primo gear of the past. And guys didn't just start catching good bags of fish yesterday, they've been doing it since way before the bicentennial (no graphite, cheesy sonar, rough-grindy-heavy reels, and line that wasn't worth a crap). Fish still were caught....Lots of them, and guys enjoyed doing it. We are spoiled brats. Hog Wally and Smallieguy87 2
Mitch f Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 To be able to "outfish" all the "expensive crap" you will need to have done your homework and know how to present the bait, it's not all about chunking and winding. Most of the time the pricier lures are better quality and will last longer, run truer. Hog Wally 1 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
