There are other good baits out there but I like to keep it simple and familiar. I'm with gruber on the purple shad and mouse. Very good colors. If you get in some stained water up the river arms, chrome clown or sun perch are hard to beat. Main thing with a spinnerbait is to commit to it. If you are gonna pick it up and put it down, pick it up and put it down ... there are better things to throw. A spinnerbait catches fish not because it's pretty, but because you can cover a ton of water with it and put it places that other moving baits just can't go. Sore Thumbs
I listened to the Bass Edge podcast the other day with Russ Lane. He thought that the Spinnerbait would make a comeback this year on the Elite Tour. Champ. You were Country when Country wasn't Cool. dtrs5kprs and Champ188
fishinwrench
War Eagle's have good wire, decent hooks, and nice blades but I have quite a few with loose heads. I can't decide whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, as that wobbling head just might add a little something.

It doesn't seem to hurt anything in my experience. dtrs5kprs
merc1997 Bo
champ is right about loose heads. the head being completely loose enhances vibration. here is a choice that can truly be thrown into anything. never needs tuning. wire frame goes back to form. you can change out the head for different sizes and colors. cuts way down on the need for carrying so many spinner baits. bo
Members HardHead
Bo - saw your spinnerbaits on tw last night for the first time. Put a couple in my cart. Promise to buy more when I start catching a few with them!
Quillback
I like Bo's design. Would like to try one with a green pumpkin jig and a dark blade, drag it on the bottom, just enough to tick it off the bottom and keep the blade turning.

Maybe this will help you feel better....I was over at Jewel Baits (they make the War Eagle spinnerbaits) the other day to complain to Gayle about this very thing, I wanted to see exactly how they were put together because I was afraid of them coming apart and he showed me how they can't come apart, the hook and frame are permanently attached. I think they are using a soft lead and the fight of the fish loosens the lead. He also said he hadn't heard this before but would investigate....just FYI. I guess nobody complains so they don't know so maybe someone other than me needs to drop them a e-mail or call to complain about this, I think harder lead would be better. fishinwrench
I'm not ready to complain because I'm not convinced yet that it is a bad thing. I might start "loosening" them on purpose.
