Bill Babler Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Lower Taney is absolutely full of grass and Coontail. Earlier in the year, some of the local guides were posting 25 pound bags that they were catching down there, on the A-Rig It is no secret, but it fishes very, very small. It is like anywhere else however, if you are trying to make a show in 1 day, you have to be very lucky. Most often if you want a good 30 minute show, it is gong to take at least 5 days to put it together. I bet they are not wanting to invest that kind of money in each episode. Also if you go down there and try to fish the bank, GOOD LUCK. Most of the Big fish in lower taney are on the deep runnouts and the grass beds in the main lower river. That is why now-a-days it is much harder to catch 5 plus pounders down there. They are also pretty fickle. You can catch a huge bag one day and then really struggle the next. There are just not a Toad Load of fish down there, and you can beat them up. Trav and dtrs5kprs 2 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Bigmo Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 In the first part of the show Rainbow Heaven Resort is shown. I believe that's in Rockaway beach.
m&m Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I usually make a couple of trips to Bull Creek in August because the water is cooler than TR. It makes for a fun day fishing the grass and lily pads there. I agree nothing over 3 lbs in the last 3 years but plenty of fish in the 1 lb to the 3 lb range. I get to throw a frog over that grass and pads and watch the water explode. Mike dtrs5kprs, evilcatfish, Ham and 1 other 4

Sore Thumbs Posted January 27, 2016 Author Posted January 27, 2016 Is it matted grass? Can you punch through it or is it real shallow?
Guest Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Beaver could benefit from having coontail & lilly pads. All those barren mudflats up the river would be prime time if grass was present.
Champ188 Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 The only problem, Trophy, is that coontail doesn't generally do well in river arms. To thrive in highland reservoirs, it needs very clear water. I grew up around coontail, hydrilla and elodea in west-central Arkansas (lakes Ouachita and DeGray) and it is indeed a boon to bass fishing. Just seems our climate here isn't quite warm enough to support it. Biologists experimented with it on Bull Shoals. Others such as Fish24/7 surely know more about that endeavor than me. mixermarkb 1

mixermarkb Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Saw them try and get it started in the backs of a few creeks, and it never took off. Maybe climate, but more likely the level fluctuation in Bull. You guys at TR have no idea how lucky you are with how stable your lake is. dtrs5kprs and Fish24/7 2
