fishinwrench Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 My dad once had a pistol taken from him at the Canadian border (they wouldn't let him cross with it). He tried like hell but never got it back.

His partner thought the dude just punched him in the chest, right ? Even if the victim was armed, at no time before he was stabbed was he justified BY LAW to shoot anyone. A man with one hand behind his back can't just be shot, regardless of how mean he looks. You can say "if the kid had a gun he'd still be alive" all you want. Yeah he might still be alive.....but he might wish he was dead after the "system" gets done with him. Well I guess but that has nothing to do with gun confiscation. We don't know what the victim saw either. If you choose not to carry because someone in another states friends didn't see a knife in the dark then that's most definitely your choice. I have no doubt the after effects of being in a self defense shooting is miserable. That's just something you have to accept before you carry yourself. I know this and it's worth it. It may not be my life I'm saving which to me is more important.
fishinwrench Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 I know a bunch of guys that carry, and at anytime you offer them a beer they'll take it. It just seems to me that by carrying 24/7/365 you are setting yourself up. If your afraid of getting shot/stabbed then wear a vest. Leave the guns for hunting purposes. bfishn and mjk86 2
cheesemaster Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 For me it is a "just in case" I run into a crackhead that wants to take my belongings, harm me or my wife and kids. The last thing I want to happen is to have to defend myself by shooting someone because I think my life is in danger. If I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I could live my life without someone trying to take advantage or harm me, my wife or kids, I wouldn't want a ccw.
176champion Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 If they are carrying a firearm and they drink beer or any alcohol while carrying and get caught they screwed..they will loose the CCW and be fined. I do have my CCW ....you can open carry in Missouri legally.....you can carry a gun in your boat or truck legally without a CCW. I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything! That law changed in 2010. 571.030.1.5 (5) Has a firearm or projectile weapon readily capable of lethal use on his or her person, while he or she is intoxicated, and handles or otherwise uses such firearm or projectile weapon in either a negligent or unlawful manner or discharges such firearm or projectile weapon unless acting in self-defense; Possessing a firearm while under the influence, is not a crime so long as the firearm is not brandished unlawfully/negligently, used unlawfully/negligently, or discharged unlawfully/negligently, or any combination thereof.
fishinwrench Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 I wondered about that, because criminalizing having a gun while drunk would make anyone under the influence of alcohol completely without defense. If you were at home drinking beer and someone broke in you couldn't legally defend yourself. Although your declaration of "self defense" while under the influence would undoubtedly create a genuine conflict in a courtroom. Better just hope that if you ever have to defend yourself that you are 100% sober with no trace of alcohol in your system. mjk86 1

You make it sound as if carrying a firearm on you at all times is really not all that great of an idea....like it may have some unintended consequences. Folks really dont care about safety or else, your correct, theyd be decked out in bullet proof armor all day every day, even then, better off wearing a life jacket as your probably more likely to drown while fishing then be murdered at the ramp. Face it...hand guns just make you look so cool.

Face it...hand guns just make you look so cool. Well I know that I couldn't go about my everyday life with a gun on me (or a vest for that matter). In and out of boats, crawling under dashes and going upside down in a bilge. I guess if all you ever do is sit in a car or walk gingerly around, never having to do anything physical or do any real work, then it wouldn't be such a hindrance. I can't even carry a phone in my pocket or on a belt clip, much less a friggin' gun.

A concealed gun is "Concealed" so "hand guns just make you look so cool" is out of the reasoning for a ccw. And I wear a life jacket. Riverwhy, Grumpy53, Ketchup and 1 other 4
