I hear the Bernie Sanders voters would redistribute the fish caught by the more successful fishermen.

I do agree that there's a  portion of the conservative crowd that would like to completely do away with fishing license, hunting license, creel limits etc. I see this a good bit when MDC posts something on social media regarding poaching or any sort of regulations. A lot of people are inherently wasteful and if given the chance most of what they pursued would go the way of the buffalo. A side note: today while i was at work ( i work in a lab at a critical access hospital) i was making small talk with a patient and brought up fishing on how i prefer to catch and release most of what i catch. He proceeded to tell me he thought that was sick and inhuman as well as torture and did not believe in recreational hunting or fishing. I guess in the end you can't please em all.

hehehhe I love it. Now I heard Bernie on the news last night say he will see that the upper crust smallmouth fishermen, oops politically correct FISHER PEOPLE  that make a certain amount will be taxed more of their amount of smallmouth to be caught thus those fish will be redistributed to those with a smaller incomes. So the way I see it the upper crust should quit their jobs and fish more and maybe keep one a year to eat because you will not be able to afford steaks.

Choices, choices choices? Vote smart people and get the word out you will be limited to the amount of fish you would like to catch, eat or release. :)  This is way to easy,

Oh no trout is a luxury item thus it will be taxed like Smallmouth. You see where I live I mostly fish for trash warm water species near and dear to me from largemouth to bluegill, carp etc. Actually I am happy with anything I can fool. Thus I don't exceed the taxation requirement most of you do :)  Still too easy.  We live beyond our means during the summer for two weeks in the upper crust wild trout waters.    Can I hear an AMEN! Cry uncle and careful how you vote,

Always kinda thought that myself....C/R fishing is inhumane and disrespectful.  I mean....i dont care, i still do it when i dont feel like getting guts on my hands, but to deny that its cruel is silly.  Nobody actually cares about the bass in the river, they just care about CATCHING the bass in the river. When hunting...it is the hunters responsibility to ensure a clean and quick kill to minimize suffering.  Fish certainly do not get that luxury, they get tortured mercilessly.

I don't feel that C/R is disrespectful . You take steps to limit the amount of trauma a fish endures (or at least i do) They're never out of the water long, if possible a picture is taken while they're in the water, my hooks are barbless and i rarely use the nickle plated hooks due to the fact that they don't rust away anywhere near as quickly(should there be one that i cant retrieve). Fishing is like my moment of Zen. I DO care about the bass in the water. SOME may only care about catching the bass on the river or lake.....I Care about being there. There's a saying that goes "i've spent countless thousands of hours out on the water and i've never once felt over worked or underpaid" That's just how it is for me. As for hunting.... I don't participate. I don't kill unless I have too. I have no problem with people hunting at all and really enjoy venison. On the flip side....is it humane to take a picture of the big buck you just killed and gutted and is now hanging in your garage or a tree in the front yard? I guess it goes both ways there. Thanks for the input though because i couldn't understand why the guy said what he did at all. You put it into a better perspective and i really genuinely mean that.

Starting to sound like PETA, no one I know tortures fish mercilessly. We might take a pic or two before we throw it back. But it's still more humane than killing it.

While you guys are on that topic, I remember while reading about catch and release mortality (was trying to make sure I do what I need to for the ones I let go, to keep them as permanently unharmed as I can), that there's quite a few countries in Europe where it's illegal to do catch and release fishing. Apparently, for ethical reasons.

I can see their point because of the countless number of people that "release" in as sloppy and careless a manner that the fish might as well be dead already, but seriously, I don't see how proper catch and release is that bad. Yeah, you're kind of getting a rush from the panicked struggle of something fighting for it's life but in the end if you let it go, I think they'd still prefer to have got scared senseless for a minute, than to basically be suffocating to death for several minutes instead. That being said, If I'm ready to head out, and I've got some on a stringer in the water, I'm going to smash them across the head with something and hopefully take them out quick.

Speaking of proper catch and release...there's several people on this forum who can give a lot of good tips on this as far as how to hold the fish(if you have to) different methods of removing hooks, proven live well treatments etc.....I encourage anyone who doesn't want to keep what they catch to take the time and look up all the good info floating around places like OAF.
