BilletHead Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 I am thinking if your convictions are that strong you are in the wrong place and have the wrong hobby. We are on top of the food chain , our eyes are looking forward prey have their eyes on the side of there pretty faces. We hunt, we kill and consume. Fish are lucky and some get to swim away. No good steward of the land would purposely torture a fish or try to not make a quick humane shot on any other quarry. We have been given dominion over critters. There are more important issues at hand so I suppose we should go back to the issue at hand. Mitch f Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 It looks like hunting and fishing will be banned in the future, based on the way these young people are talking. Free speech is already gone in our Universities. Blocking anyone with a different point of view. Fishermen will be labeled as cruel and inhuman people. As a "young" person, (im not that young) i can promise you that i do quite a bit to promote conservation management, hunting, and fishing. What do you do besides vomiting all over the OAF page about mythical marauding bands of Giggers, and hippies banning fishing? Probably nothing...but thats ok...cuz you C/R your smallies right? Thats cool. If your interested in actually doing something ill provide you with some volunteer information at various conservation areas, there are lots more options than you might thin. Heck, you can even just show up some saturday and say, id like to help out and they can point you in the right direction. You probably wont take me up on that cuz you really dont care about conservation, just giggers and smallies on the 2 or 3 little sections of river you fish. Also...the notion that im somehow a peta person cracks me up....ive killed more fish and small game this year than you have your whole life. It just helps me to respect and appreciate my quarry by being able to empathize with its struggle. Based on the way these old people are talking im kinda glad time is on the younger folks side....
MOPanfisher Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Oh Man I am confused now. Gigging in general OK. Gigging of bass or any game fish bad. Generally certain groups of giggers causing problems not all giggers, check. Giggers can do some damage to the larger fish in a population, check. Catching and releasing a fish = cruel, WTH. I have never felt any remorse for catching a fish, whether released or eaten, guess I am cruel and heartless, OK I can live with that. Free speech gone, and replaced with Political Correctness, yeah sadly so. younger generation not going to care for environment, nope don't agree. younger generation going to stop hunting and fishing, nope don't agree either. Honestly I think that the younger generation is going to have a better tie in with protecting environment and resources, and conserving wildlife that previous ones, as a whole anyway. We (my generation) tend to be more of a "Whats in it for me" grouping, I like my hobbies and places and want them protected, most of the younger generation are getting more of an overall protecting, and conserving of all resources attitude, and while it can go overboard pretty easily I like that a bigger segment of the population is becoming aware and active. dtrs5kprs 1
Smallieguy87 Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 There's a bit more to it then just having nerve endings equals feeling pain though. There has to be a certain level of physiological awareness for pain to be felt. There's debate over whether or not fish have the conscious awareness and physiological awareness to process pain the way a human would. I guess no one knows unless they some how become the fish. In the end ill continue to treat them with the utmost care upon catching and releasing them as should anyone here who values catch and release. There's been a good bit of interesting opinions and contributions here. It went way beyond what i thought it would and while i don't agree with some of the posts here i'd most definitely throw out a line with all of you.
