Members Bigin64083 Posted April 11, 2016 Members Posted April 11, 2016 I was fishing with my 11 year old son on Saturday. We were fishing in front of a dock and all of a sudden what appeared to be a tournament boat cut right in front of us literally 2 docks. I know they seen us and still continued to fish. It took us approximately 3 minutes to catch up to them and I could of made a cast into their boat. I decided not to say anything, would any of you say anything. I know it probably wouldn't of done any good, however, I was raised not to do what they did. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Ham Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Guys like that are in every sport or hobby. They give all the other guys a bad name. I wouldn't do that for any reason at all and most tournaments have rules that specifically state that you must display courtesy and Good Sportsmanship at all times. They could and should be DQ'ed for that behavior. They absolutely do not have any more right to that water than you did and could have fished behind you or elsewhere. fishinwrench Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Depends. There's alot of different kinds of fishing going on, so if you looked like you were shooting docks for crappie and a bass fisherman pulled in ahead of you and proceeded to work down the bank towards a point then I can't get upset at the bass fishermen. A week ago some catfishermen were anchored on a shallow flat and I worked over the logs pretty close to them. Close enough that we had a short conversation at normal volume. Nobody got uptight. But if a guy had been out on that flat obviously bass fishing it I wouldn't have pulled in on him. You can usually tell what kind of fishing someone is doing, and if the kind of fishing YOU are doing isn't going to effect them then go for it. If I am bass fishing and a crappie guy pulls in ahead of me to shoot a dock that's fine with me. I've picked up some good clues/tips by having another fisherman within sight. Sometimes you see them catch one doing something that you hadn't considered......so next time instead of getting all worked up, pay attention, keep an eye on them and you might learn something. Members Bigin64083 Posted April 11, 2016 Author Members Posted April 11, 2016 Thanks for the feedback...I've been fishing LOZ for twenty years and that's never happened. I was working a shaky head, so pretty obvious I was fishing for bass. I think the tournament guys just think they are entitled because they're in a tournament.
m&m Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Bigin, How did you know it was a tournament boat? I think that all fishermen should be respectful and practice good sportsmanship. But consider yourself lucky that this is the first time where someone cut in front of you to fish in the same direction. By the way, how did the shakey head work? Mike

The good news is this genre of fisherman usually zooms in, takes 5 casts, and zooms out. With empty livewells more often than not...... Mike Bigin64083 1

Well it is not only tournament fisherman, was out crappie fishing last week and was fishing a larger pocket that had a few lay downs and a guy pulled up on the next lay down 20 yards up from me so there must be rude fisherman in general, not just tournament fisherman. Lucky for him I only needed one more for my limit or he would have got a ear full so it is not just "tournament fisherman", a few give all a bad name. Bigin64083 1
Flysmallie Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 I don't know how many times I have been fishing a tournament and a crappie fisherman pull right in front of me. All you can do is shrug and go on. I don't know if any of you ever go any where except your house or the lake but if you look around there is rudeness everywhere. Most rude people don't even know they are being rude, just the way they have learned to live life.

Mike It appeared to be a tournament boat, wearing life vest, both fishing from the front of the boat. No luck on the shaky head. Didn't fish that long, got tired of fighting the wind.
fishinwrench Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Spend a Sunday afternoon in Laurie, Mo. right after church gets out. People dressed to kill...and acting like being killed is exactly what they need. conorsixtakc, gardnerjigman and Old plug 3
