Like any reputable 12 step program, I must share my experiences with others. Which means you. I took my first smallmouth trip Thursday with a friend on the upper Meramec, my usual springtime float, and, did OK. Nothing over 16 inches. A lot of fish caught though. End of story (sitting down on a brown metal chair).

(Thanks for sharing Joe! Keep working the program!)

Fish were caught on flukes, topwater, and bottom bouncing plastic. The fish were in specific spots, behind laydowns that were parallel and close to the bank. Always in slow, nondescript water. For every hookup, there were just as many misses, the fish seeming to attack, but not eat, the lure. Moving it out of the way. This section of the river has definitely changed due to high water. So many trees, so many obstacles, so much gravel moved around, widening and shallowing sections as never before. Yet, the fish were still there. They didn't pack their bags and leave town. The day was sunny and beautiful and a complete success in my book. Even though I had a flat tire when I retrieved my van at the end. Good thing I had a spare.

Another note: It is my opinion that the new flukes have a different composition, the plastic is tougher, or more solid, than before, and last a lot longer. The white color seems brighter.

Another note: I smoked four cigars.

Thanks for letting me talk about my addiction. It certainly isn't easy, but it gets better with each retelling.

Hahahaha....sweet report JoeD.

I've  missed you brother

We all have are little  addictions, some more than others....when the water warms can we please go do a float??

CRAWS!!!!!!

ZWICKLE!!!!

I have been searching  for A 1/128TH Mushroom  head for my little guy, I'm  on an eternal quest for a perfect death spiral drop at the correct rate...it's  true over the Winter I became a closet UltraMegaSuperMini Finesse Ned fisherman. It all started trying to catch the Green Sunfish at Des Peres park and has progressed to the point where I'm finding  myself driving to Blue Springs creek to chase Common Shiners. The UltraMegaSuperMini Finesse Ned set up is totally  complete  with my Tenkara rod...I need help, serious  therapy  possibly??? The pain and anguish is too much to bear sitting in my lonely insurance  office when I know I could be potentially  catching every Sunfish in Walker lake in Jerkwood. ...The horror. ..........the horror

Sounds like my kind of float trip. Did upper a couple weeks ago in the snow. Caught fish on wood in slack nothing looking water. Would be fishing tomorrow but hate canoe camping in the rain. 2 degrees and snowing is fine though. Need some more craws and jig heads Mitch. Plus need to go fish. Joe, Mitch, SmallieB....finally have some availability.

As the saying goes, the first step to recovery is recognition of the addiction.  I share the fishing addiction.  Apparently, I am even dreaming about fishing, as my wife says I am moving my hands as if jigging in my sleep.  have sought "counseling" for my fishing addiction; I joined this forum and use all you guys as my therapists.  One of the best decisions I've made, though all of you only increase dramatically my desire to be running the river. . . .
