I love her to death and she lets me fish whenever I ask and makes me a sammich when I get home so I guess I'll keep her around. She doesn't understand why I need a $100 reel as much as I don't understand why she needs a $100 purse. Maybe you guys need better jobs.

Hell mine isn't even going to fix me a sammich without screwing it up. It doesn't matter what I do she can't understand the expense of anything. She's a thrifty lady except when it comes to vehicles and anything our 3 daughters want. And yes better paying jobs can make a difference but it hasn't with mine. Just wait until the FedEx guy drops off my package from the camera store today. She is going to be so excited I bet she calls me at work! Sometimes it's better to ask for forgiveness. chi0082 1

I'm glad I have someone to keep me in check so I don't end up spending more than I should on a hobby. Fishing is not something I do for a living, so it doesn't make sense to drop a ton of money on a reel. My wife understands I'm very passionate about fishing and my many other expensive outdoor hobbies, but I gotta understand I gotta be reasonable with her too. She supports everything I do and has sacrificed so much so I can keep doing what I love outdoors. She takes care of 2 crazy little ones and puts a warm meal on the table for me when I get home no matter how late. I don't miss my single life and don't wish things were any different. If anything, I owe her some very expensive favors and some long overdue dates. Champ188, mixermarkb and jtram 3

It's not worth being able to have the best if you don't have the time/energy to use said things. My crappy job keeps me poor but I sure do catch A LOT of fish with my available time off. My wife is like OP's, but I get in a lot of trouble mixermarkb 1

So far, she hasn't had any problems and that means more fishing time for me. If the spirex has a trigger and she closed the bail with the reel handle, it would be completely useless. I have never seen a reel even approach the line twist that a spirex will if it is a trigger and you use the handle to close the bail. Just terrible. Most anything would be an improvement, and I am a Shimano guy. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com

I'll still be carrying the same old/tired DSLR that I've been carrying for several years. But now I will have an Olympus TG-870 to carry in my fly pack.

I am at the last stage, and as much as I love fishing, it still comes second to my family. So I don't understand your meme. You must find it funny though.
