Another one was on braid with a leader, tried a new knot for the leader,... fail. The third one I was throwing line too light into the 3lb whites and line got cut. I have bought more braid and will throw on heavier line next time. Basically a combination of too much excitement and bad judgement. LOL Run that braid right to the bait unless it is a TW that will beat it up. Some of the Japanese wide path walkers will do that. 30#-50#, really liking the new Daiwa J-braid. Braid will absolutely resurrect a sketchy redfin.

I knew it was risky but it was producing. Nice double. I have never landed a double on a topwater. But I don't often fish for bass all that much anymore either. dan hufferd 1

Mitch f Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 I would eat the cost of 3 whopper poppers to have a nice day fishing. Very small price to pay. dan hufferd, dtrs5kprs, LD Fisher and 1 other 4 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

But there was never a time that bowling could ever hold a candle to fishing. I do not look at fishing as a competition. It is something in my sole that been there my entire life. Catching is not importnt either anymore. It s just being out thereoing it. I always looked at fishing as me vs. Fish. Fish win some, and I win some. Love the challenge, but fishing can be frustrating at times when I can't figure out the puzzle, in which many times I over think it. But that's fishing.

Way back in pre historic times I used float a lot from the Birds Nest to Onandaga. I would do it in a real long wooden john boat ( still think they are the best craft for the river) that was built buy a old fella that lived in a log cabin right close to onandaga cave. Well Harvey was a real down to earth ozark country boy of few words. But believe me the way he said them was was a book in your mind. I remember one time he was bringing some people down the river and this guy kept throwing the lure into the bank and bushes. Harvey got tired of it and very calmily explained to the guy that the sun was up and the dew had tried off the bushes so the fish went back into the water. I was not there but I heared the guy never said a word the rest of the day. I recall one time he made me feel real stupid. I was down at the river and was getting high. A couple kids portaged the low water bridge and were headed down the river in a small canoe. I was a bit concerned because the river was rising fast. Harvey was down there so I said to Harvey where did those kids come from. All he said without moving or changing his expression was "up the river". Now me being a young buck you know I Just had to say something else. So i said " Harvey wonder where they are going " all he said. "down the river". I never ask him a silly question again. shark bait, Hammer time and Johnsfolly 3

So you wouldn't really need to retie very often if the line never touches a rock, wood, debris or gravel, unless your rod guides are all chipped and damaged. It's not so much the rocks or gravel causing nicks. The Plopper is the kind of bait that you really want to cover lots of water with. So you try to really heave the lure as hard as you can. The constant strain on the line causes it to wear out on the loading and snapping of the line (especially a heavy bait like the Plopper) on the last part of the cast. Then it either snaps off or a big fish can break it much easier. Re-tying often is a must, as you have said. mixermarkb, dtrs5kprs, Hammer time and 1 other 4 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
