MOPanfisher Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 That was quick thinking by the marina operator, well done. I doubt there will be any laws outlawing any boats in the near future. Sadly accidents happen. I have heard stories of a Champion on LOZ doing essentially half a barrel roll when it clipped a waked off center at speed. I personally had a wave on Texoma roll over the gun wale of my old Champ, fortunately I was idling along and saw it coming, and got partly turned it it, that wake was a from a large cruiser at about half throttle, made a wake like a river barge. Bass boats for all their stability when fishing are not that stable at planing speed. Kill switch and a pfd would resulted in a very wet, very ticked off boater telling his friends about how rough TR is, hopefully some reading this topic will be safer as a result, maybe it will prompt me to go ahead and buy the inflatable pfd I keep thinking about. big c, mixermarkb and 96 CHAMP 3

Folks from different parts of the marina saw it happen and saw the guy in the water struggling. The owner of the marina jumped into a pontoon and raced out there but could not get to the guy in time. The bass boat was circling in full throttle and the marina owner took a tube rope and was able to get it in front of the boat and tangle the prop. The water patrol searched until about midnight and dove a few spots and suspended efforts for the evening and diving operations began the next morning at 5:30. It was unsuccessful and the WP ran imaging all day on the area of the incident where they marked a few points that are going to be dove tonight 5/28 after the boating traffic has slowed for the day. DADAKOTA Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 So sad and so avoidable. No reason not to use a kill switch if your motor has one. If you don't want to wear a pfd for your own safety, then wear it for your family so in the worst case scenario they can avoid a search for your dumbarse and have a body to bury. dtrs5kprs, tho1mas, Mitch f and 2 others 5

If it is deep, and I think the report was 100 feet, it could be a while before the body comes up, assuming it isn't hung up on something. Wouldn't be the first body that TR kept, hopefully it doesn't turn into a worse situation and the body float up amid the holiday pleasure boaters. Yeah, it is well over 100 feet deep out there. I live in one of the coves across and south from the Marina, and it is 100 feet deep (and dropping) just after you pass our no-wake buoys. Given how many boaters (including big yachts and houseboats) were out there tonight, wouldn't surprise me if the wake turbulence moves and/or brings the body up.
Dylan Cluver Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 The guy that runs the the dive shop at Indian point is about the most legit diver you ever met, the WP is going to have him do some dives. If the body was cut by the prop then the body may never come up on its own. No one gripes about obese fish.
Old plug Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 There was legislation introduced by my state rep ( David Wood) that died in committee. it is not surprising to me that they had some negative reactions to this up here at LOZ, Bar owners, dock repair services, and summer people do not like that sort of thing. The Water patrol up here though has been reinforced and will be added to more. They are back to what they were like arresting BWI. They will also be stopping people about wake like ploing and giving them a good lecture.and warning. Years ago when first moved out there were a few instances were boats got shot up. Now if we get the new right to carry law this year the lake might just turn into the Wild West. Except for some around here that own sniper type rifles. They can do it from far off. dtrs5kprs 1

The state could clean your lake up and there would still be plenty of money to be made. Just terrible greed in play. Money over lives.
Old plug Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 DAVE It could be a lot better. Graft and politics are the big thing. I kind of trusted wood (and still do) to get the job done. He is a pretty straight shooter and has had some impact about this. I know though that there is a thing going on with politicians about introducing things very favorable to their constituents when they know very well it will not pass. I know of one in a major state that would tell those people she was fighting to get this bill passed over and over each year but it never got out of committee. I really suspect this person planned it that way. Am pretty certain that person did not support what the bill was asking for in spite of that person writing the bill. I rate the political process in this country at -100 percent. I had many years in the shadows of lasation.

Have to feel for folks who bought property there 30 years ago, only to see it turn into the outdoor asylum it has become.
