Flysmallie Posted July 14, 2016 Author Posted July 14, 2016 I did buy one last weekend. I went against everyone's recommendations, including my own, and bought a Ascend FS12T for a couple of reasons and I'm glad that I did. I actually almost bought a Pescador Pro 12 but after I compared it to the FS12T it just wasn't worth the extra $230. Here are the reasons I went with the Ascend. 1. I have really no idea what I wanted in a kayak. I had only fished out of one once so I felt I needed a little more experience to be able to tell what my desires in a quality boat are. After just being out in it a couple of times those are starting to become apparent. 2. I didn't have the time/patience/experience to go out and paddle a bunch of different models and still end up making the wrong decision. I needed to be on the water now. The other factors were that they have made some enhancements to the 2016 Ascends. Seems like a much better boat than the one that I had paddled before. It might be a bit on the heavy side but I have zero problems carrying it around or getting it on top of my car. It's starting to give me some things to consider when I do decide to go with a more quality boat, and yes that time will come. It's not as slow as I was led to believe. I was even able to keep up with a guy running a trolling motor on his pretty easily. Not that I was trying to but it was interesting that I could. I like it. It's put me on the water. I've caught some fish. I'm getting it figured out. And after seeing all the new stuff that's coming out of iCast I'm glad I have waited on a more expensive boat. Now I can take my time to make an educated decision but still have a good boat that puts me on the water fishing. I even stunk it up with a decent first fish. Johnsfolly and ness 2
Gavin Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Nice fish! Glad you like your new boat. No sense in looking for the perfect one...Better to spend time fishing instead of looking.
Stein Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Subscribed so I can find it later. Last week we fished out of a couple of BPS $249 boats and still had fun. My buddy and I have both been looking for a decent SOT since. It would be nice to just leave at the house down there so when I happen to be in Fayetteville of Joplin for work I can pop by for the weekend and have something to fish out of.

But for a guy my size? No. With that seat? Hell no. But I see a lot of them out there so they can't be bad. Just not right for me. I did like the Pro version though. It's a nice boat.
Ham Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Stein is fit and trim. He'd do awesome in a Pescador. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

Ham Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 For me, there is no one perfect boat. My Coosa has advantages. My Tarpon has advantages. Are the advantages of the Coosa worth the difference in price, IMO No. < $500 Pescador is a better value than > $1200 Coosa I should have brought both boats with me and y'all could have paddled them both. Demo day. Next time IF you haven't bought a boat already. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
