Interesting  and you are fishing  water that is pretty dang clear most of the time correct? ?? I have been told by a lot of guys that I would need a flourocarbon or mono leader but, I have never done it.

I was just wondering  if you guys do it???

So now I have to ask and I see MOpan fisher said he does but I am actually  very interested in how you guys feel it performs  on Baitcasters.....I use it on the Mississippi  and Missouri with quite heavy plugs but have never really used it on a baitcasters other than for A-rigs and big Olde cranks....do you guys use it on BC's with smaller  plugs???

Yes I am. Our waters are just as clear as anywhere. Personally I wouldn't waste my time with a leader. Some people swear by them, I swear at them. What makes people think fish can't see the leader?

I use snaps on most rods because I do a lot of switching out during the day. But on spinnerbaits and buzzbaits I highly recommend that you tie directly. It works much better as you don't get line tangles in the arms of the blades.

I also tie directly to the jig head when I'm goggle eye fishing. It just looks better to me. And this is where braid really shines. You can pull your jig out of the brush! Just bend the hook back to its factory setting and put her back in the water.

I use braid on every size plug or jig that I have. It has never compromised the performance. I've pulled fish out of the brush up to around 4lbs or so on the 4lb dia line with my 5'6" UL Falcon.

I started out with Crystal Fireline crappie fishing. I also used it trout fishing with 1/60th jigs and been successful.

The sensitivity of braid far exceeds mono. Braid tells me everything that is going on under the water. You will feel the subtlest bite.

There is nothing you can't do better with 832 than anything else out there. That's my opinion. Others may not agree.

Well I like Suffix mono, alot, so I will have to give this 832 a go. Want to see this fishing line that is apparently better than sex. I'll use no clip or leader though and you can't make me.

I'm going to put it on a new spinning reel I need to buy. The last one didn't like being soaked in salt water and then forgotten about for several weeks. I never learn that lesson.

I also agree this has been a very informative thread.  Putting together a bass rod and I've tried some of the braid thats out there, but have allot of homework to do still.

Fishing strictly trout lately I have been a fan of 3lb Maxima in green for spinning setups.  It is crazy strong for what it is.  I've fished it in 2lb and 4lb as well, but found 3lb allows me to sling both the smaller and bigger jigs without swapping spools.

I always considered them a post spawn tool. very effective when males are guarding fry. ( I feel the flames getting closer)

Now you are trolling.

Nope, not me. I never targeted a male bass guarding fry, but I had it happen. I cast up the bank in a small pocket. I noticed the ball of fry first which is always a good thing, signs of spawning success. Then I saw the bass moving towards the fry, I figured it was about to get ugly. The bass swam past all the fry and ate my floating worm which was headed towards the ball of fry one twitch at a time.

I don't sight fish bedding bass, but I'm not going to stop bass fishing from Feb to July which I would have to do to eliminate any chance of catching a fish that is spawning. Others can rant and rave if they want to do so. I'm not going to beat that dead horse anymore.

I believe you. I was just teasing that your previous post might bring out the sanctimonious - indeed, it seemed to goad them,

Responsible fishing, and care for that which you catch, is not perfect. However, I am sure you and I lose very few fish to avoidable injuries. As much as I enjoyed fishing the fish doctor Carolina style, I gave it up. I could not figure how to avoid gut hooting about half the fish. The Ned works as well and is much easier on the fish.

Think the 2lb diameter rated for  6lb is the one I use for spinning reels. You can get away with a quick easy knot for the leader connection on bass & trout. Usually use a 3 turn Surgeons or a Uni Uni. Bigger fish... Albright and glue.

I started with that size. And it's really more than strong enough.

I started with some 4# braid, fireline, I had more cuts from trying to break that stuff than any butchering work I have ever done.  I prefer the 6# around brush and river work, usually can straighten out a jig hook and just bend it back into shape.
