Don't beat me up too bad people. First time at the you tube thing and my 70's music from way back when I was in high school :). Might be in trouble using the music too ? So this may disappear soon. That will teach me not to try that again. Not too cheesy I hope,

Holy Cow! Back to the store to buy more sugar I bet.

My H.B.s are very few this year (four sighted at one time is the most I have seen). Not birdie in my neck of the woods this year.

Cool vid.

 Thanks Thomas,

I have four feeders out right now like this one and they are all that busy. They will empty that one in a day. That video is four and a half minutes long. I set the camera out and took twenty five minutes of that busyness. Had the tripod out for a couple of days for them to get used to.

That's very odd to see that many together like that.  Usually they are pretty territorial.  We had a feeder for a while and we would watch two of them fight over it even though there was plenty of room for them both.  We ended up having to take it down because ants would swarm the feeder so much that they would clog the holes.

They sell ant blockers that go between the hook and the feeder. I make them out of empty tuna fish cans, an I-bolt thru the middle with "o" rings under each nut to seal it. Fill with liquid cooking oil. No more ants (the little birds do not like them).

BilletHead,  Do you mind sharing your general location with us ?  Like tho1mas, who is about 45 miles North of me, we are not seeing the usual numbers of Hummers at our feeders this year.  We would normally have four 44oz. feeders ready to go about now and are lucky to see two birds at a time.  Kinda' disappointing and wondering what's the deal ?  Thanks.

       Skeeter,

We are in Vernon County about half way between KC and Joplin on the West part of the state. We have always had bird like this. We are on our third 25 lb. bag of sugar. Just looked out there right now and I think the numbers have doubled. They did go through a gallon yesterday. I would share birds for sure. Don't know if makes a difference or not but Mrs. BilletHead puts a couple Goodmans pure orange flavor in each batch of juice she makes. Just read the label on the stuff and it is made in Marshfield, MO.

We have had no problem with ants this season yet. A few red wasps that will actually chase the birds. I have a very simple solution for the stinging insects. A tip here for others that hate them. Get yourself a cheap spray bottle, then a bottle of isopropyl alcohol. Be sure and get the 99% stuff. Rubbing alcohol doesn't cut it.  Put the spray bottle sprayer right on the alcohol bottle(this lets stupid people know not to spray each other or themselves if they can read). Set the spray on stream. Shoot the wasps. A couple of hits and they are down. The spray evaporates quickly. We use it if they get into the house or screened in porch.  I would not go for a nest unless you come up with a way to disperse a large quantity at once. If you do please let me know. I get stung and swell up like a poisoned pup. I see a nest and go berserk on them. Usually with a pressurized can of wasp and hornet killer and i don't want to use that around the hummers.
