Fished yesterday with OA member Little Jasper.  We started at daylight, had some pretty thick fog to begin with, which eventually burned off after about an hour.  We caught some fish, about 20 bass total, but only one definite keeper that went about 2 lbs.  Early we threw square bills and top waters shallow, we'd pick one up every once in a while, and covered quite a bit of water.

Ran into a big school of ten inch spots that were out in 40 FOW chasing shad, we fished that for a bit hoping to find a big largemouth cruising underneath them, but no dice on that.

We did a little drop shotting at one location out deep, but we only got one doing that and didn't see many fish on the graph.

Fished a long bluff later in the morning and got a few on jigs and shaky heads.

Lots of little shad back in the coves and in places in the main channel.  It gives me hope we could have some pretty good fishing this fall.

Have to give a shout out to Nu-Tech jigs, broke off 4 conventional jigs in a pretty short time frame, went with a Nu-Tech and it stayed on for the rest of the day, and even caught a bass or two on it.   Used green pumpkin/blue, there are bluegills up shallow and I was throwing jigs that imitated them in color.

Water temps were 82 early, rising to 84 when we left.

Quill, thanks for the report. Sounds like a tough day. I hope to get out this weekend.

there's definitely a bluegill/bass thing going on right now. Found a 20" lm with a big gill stuck sideways in her bucketmouth. I netted it and removed the gill and both of them swam away!

I've become a big fan of the Nu-Tech jigs and heads, especially the little crappie jig head.  I've hung em' a few times but have yet to lose or break one off.  Just move the boat over to the hangup and jiggle (technical term) the rod a couple of times and they've always popped right loose.  Took me a while to gain confidence in them but I soon became convinced that they're the real deal.  I always have a small grub on one of the crappie heads on deck for follow ups.

Good stuff Bo!

Nice report Quill. Good to see guys on the forum meeting up and fishing together.

And yes, NuTech gear is the real deal Holyfield. Does everything Bo claims it will do...snags less, comes through cover better and 95% of the time the fish is stuck in the roof of the mouth.

you were sure fishing with rough company:lol:.  your fishing report mirrored what i have observed the last week or so.  the cooling water temps seemed to be scattering the bass again, and they had just finally got gathered up pretty good.  it sure makes every fishing trip an adventure.  you can catch them the same way or place twice in a row.

Fishing seemed o.k., but your choice in fishing partner was without question........ bad.  Next time go with YOUR instincts and tell "little jasper" you will be the guide. I suspect you will see better fishing.  Phone call coming in 5, 4, 3, 2.................
