magicwormman Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 I can't believe the Corps is even considering removing all dock buoys on the lake. With the increasing numbers of wake boats and number of people who ignore the no wake buoys, what makes the corps think they will obey a NO WAKE SIGN HANGING ON A DOCK. I would like to believe saving the life of ONE person swimming off the dock would be important enough to have buoys 100 ft from every dock. The following paragraph taken from page 16 of Corps plan: (During a report-out session, Matt Walz explained the inconsistencies and problems associated with dock buoys to the group. He explained that law currently dictates a no wake zone 100-feet from docks. As a result, dock buoys are redundant and can only be placed within 100- feet of docks. He explained that water patrol receives many calls regarding incorrect placement of buoys, and these calls distract from more pertinent matters on the lake. He suggested requiring dock owners utilize Missouri Water Patrol Signs in place of buoys; see Figure 1 for an illustration of this sign. The entire group agreed that these signs placed on the end of docks, as well as increased efforts for boater education on no wake regulations would be the best means of reducing damage to docks, boats, and shorelines from excessive wakes. The group stated that the current SMP should be reflected to suggest Missouri Water Patrol signage in lieu of current dock buoys. Additional information regarding the sign and specifications are available at: http://www.mshp.dps.missouri.gov/MSHPWeb/WaterPatrol/Buoy/documents/noWakeSignForDock s.pdf). InPiney 1
MOPanfisher Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 It's more about being consistent with the state law. I didn't even realize that the COE has anything to do with buoys on TR. The MSHP is the permit issuing authority and enforcement for violation. I have heard on LOZ for example the MSHP is becoming somewhat restrictive on issuing buoy permits. Don't know how the weekends incidents on LOZ will affect the policy.
176champion Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 2 months ago i noticed the one at shell knob bridge boat ramp buoy was gone... I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything! Bruce Philips
merc1997 Bo Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 as i read through the post, and it mentioned to cut down on excessive damage to not only docks but to shoreline as well. does that mean the boats throwing the big excessive wakes are going to be brought down to idle only. only in my dreams. bo Daryk Campbell Sr, 176champion, dtrs5kprs and 1 other 4
Old plug Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 i have a friend that was vice commander of the athere patrol at one time bouys cause one heck f a lot of trouble for the patrol becuase they had to mange the whole program. They had to issue the permits and there were thousands of them no longer being used so on and so forth. I think this idea might well have some value. I no longer have a bouy. But i think there needs to be strick inforcement of the law. Like on the road where cops are setting up sped traps. Sane thin could be done on the water. Set back somewhere and just watch for them. The patrol men's word is always the rule. And yes most bouys are misplaced.
Alex Heitman Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Getting rid of the bouys is a big mistake. In our cube we just got some replaced that broke lose and people would zoom by our dock and the others in the cove with no regard. We had plenty of some wake boaters take off right beside our dock. We got the bouys back now but some still have no respect. They get a good cussing most of the time ? magicwormman, abkeenan and InPiney 3
bobby b. Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Alex is right on. This is a big mistake. We are in the process of getting our dock permit renewed. The Corp has may some outrageous requirements again this time. 1) We had two swings hanging from some 2x4s supported from the vertical steel structure - these must be removed due to the structural concerns that they created. Really, With two people and the weight of the swing that is 500 lbs. They can be replaced with swings that are supported from the deck - What;s the difference? 2) A couple of slip owners had kayaks sitting on the slip fingers - These must be removed. Why??? magicwormman 1
Nitroman Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Don't ever forget that you are dealing with a US Government run & funded agency. Who employs people that are lucky if they can walk, chew gum, & scratch their butt @ the same time. Most of them could care less & do as little as possible & are currently out trying to drum up votes for Clinton to protect their jobs. dan hufferd Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Most people don't know what 100' looks like. They might as well do away with the law. If you take the buoys down no one will slow down. LD Fisher, Daryk Campbell Sr, magicwormman and 5 others 8
