Nitroman Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 I & my wife own & operate a resort & boat-dock on Table Rock & have for the last 14 years. In those 14 years the USACOE has never once shown up @ any time during any of the floods to ask if we needed help in any way. Neighbors yes, & even strangers have helped us. Then again we don't pay their salaries. The USACOE shows up when they feel like it, no appointment, no advance warning, just " HERE WE ARE WE ARE IMPORTANT STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING WE MUST DO AN INSPECTION " !!!!!!! And you best make time for them as if you don't they will send you a threating letter about pulling your boat-dock lease. Oh yeah, they can find the time once a year to mail us an invoice for $600.00 to let our boat-dock float on their lake. So, over 14 years I have paid them $8400.00 just to let my ( IT IS MINE NOT THEIRS ) boat-dock float on their lake. What have I received for my $8400.00 " JACK dung " not even a thank you. Have they helped or assisted us in any way with the thousands of dollars required to repair our boat-dock after the floods or clean up the grounds " OH YEAH SURE THEY HAVE " !!!!!!! Contact your insurance company & file a claim & their response is the USACOE says it was an " ACT OF GOD" & we don't cover an " ACT OF GOD " !!!!!!! Try to find an insurance company that will cover a boat-dock, due to the millions of dollars in damages from the floods there are very few left. Those that will & do have jacked the premium levels to beyond belief. They are happy to tell you how wide a path can be that runs on their property & that bordering that path with decorative rock is a violation that you can & will be fined for. Also, "GOD FORBID " do not place decorative rock around a tree base, unless you would like a 2nd. fine. And OH YEAH cut your grass beyond a specific spot designated by them & they will threaten you with your boat-dock renewal lease. I could continue but why, will they change their MO, I doubt it, they are covered with Teflon & do as they please. A real class organization. Thanks for the lunch offer but I just have this feeling we will not agree on that either. tapout and Ron Burgundy 2 Rock View Resort Table Rock Lake Greg Pope, Owner/Operator & Fishing Guide
MOPanfisher Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Nitroman, I finally was smart enough to look at your profile (and signature line) and saw the Rock Lane Resort, I used to be down in that area occasionally when I worked there. I have no doubt that owning and operating a resort on TR or any lake that fluctuates is a difficult and often non-profitable business. Lake Levels, storm, wake damage etc. are all going to take a toll for sure. We could easily talk for a long time on the regs and requirements on Public Lands, but we would both tire of it quickly. The lunch offer is still open any time, and unless you pick a place that plays rap music (good luck finding one of those in Hickory County), I hope you have had a good summer this year and a busy holiday weekend coming up. vernon and Champ188 2

Well stated. Nitroman is obviously a hard working guy just trying to make an honest living by providing others with a place to enjoy themselves away from the stressors of their own occupations. I hate that he has to endure such frustration brought about through no fault of his own. That being said, I'm as sure as I can be that there is no single person at USACE lying awake at night trying to figure out ways to pile on and make it worse. However, I AM sure that there are numerous folks in high ranking, decision making levels of government that are so thoroughly detached from the rest of us that they routinely pass laws and make policies while having absolutely no idea what the long reaching effects might be. Nor do most of them care. So long as they're satisfying their friends, familes, lobbyists and fellow "whatevers", their lives are good and they go merrily on their way thinking that they're way smarter than all the rest of us. Unfortunately, there's no easy fix or any fix at all for that matter short of a complete overhaul of the system. Small business owners throughout the country are experiencing much of the same thing just through different government channels. I'm afraid that IF a solution is ever rendered, it will be far to late to benefit Nitroman or any of those other hard working Americans that are just trying to find their way in an uphill battle. It's a shame. tho1mas and Champ188 2 "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." George Carlin "The only money ever wasted is money never spent." Me.

You could also say that about any big corporation in America. It's not just a government problem. I work as a training manager for one of these large companies and I see it everyday. The problem is the people at the top are usually just trying to make things better but they have no idea how it impacts their people at the bottom or their customers. And yes, some do not care when they are told. vernon 1
