Bucks Only On Public Land Macon County

My pal that has a place on Thomas Hill lake showed me a picture of a new sign the MDC posted in the public area parking lot at the end of his road.

In part:

NO ANTERLESS PERMITS ON THIS AREA.

This is part of the CWD area in Northern Missouri, plus we were hit hard a couple years ago with Blue Tongue.

It doesn't mean 'Bucks Only', it just means if you want to take a doe you have to punch your 'Any Deer' tag.

It's likely that the change is in response to the drop in overall deer numbers. RFD515 is right that folks that wanted a doe would have to give up their any deer tag, which most folks are unlikely to do. Thus the does are going to have a small bit of protection to allow the overall population to recover or be stabilized from the disease outbreaks.

Thanks I stand corrected. I'll probably be up there before the season, and might still check with the local agent if I see her. Just to make sure. Doesn't  really matter though. Wouldn't  mind some fresh venison  for the table, but if they are taking some action we'll just continue to let the does walk as we have been the last few years.

Have you looked at this year's deer and turkey hunting guide? You might want to check what weapons you can use on that piece of property. Some of the CA land down this way now can only be hunted with archery equipment and like Thomas Hill you cannot use an antlerless permit only your any deer tag. With the antler point restriction removed on the CWD counties, you might consider taking a young buck instead of a doe. They tend to move a lot and can be one of the ways that CWD is spreading across these counties.

I'll open this again. Because I just got a call from my friend up there, and he is being told that it does indeed mean bucks only. They even called someone with the Conservation Department that said that is what it means. 

Why then don't they just post the areas as bucks only? My best guess is "ticket bait".

I would hunt whatever they have the same sign at Lead Mine CA and have to use Any Deer Permit on Does.

Some up at MDC don't know squat, had one tell me it was Illegal to catch Suckers on Rod and Reel, one Agent wanted to write me a Ticket over a Common Snapping Turtle.

Occasionally you'll run into one like that.  I had one argue with me saying that carp and buffalo were the same fish, just different regional names.  He wasn't a young new agent either.
