It is incidents like that and among other things is why I'm in favor of a boat operator license for all to take a test similar to the state drivers license covering all coast guard rules and state rules and laws govern boat operation, (no grandfathering) before anyone can operate a boat on any lake in the state of Missouri. Including myself although I have had and operated a boat over 30 years there's stuff I don't know right along with everyone else.. Maybe it would do some good?????? Also have a financial responsibility law requiring insurance or post a bond covering liability of medical and property damage before registering a boat in this state. The way it is now you go plop down the $$ for a boat and put it on the water with limited or no experience operating a such craft.... I can hear the cries now if this would become a requirement.....

That sounds very scary, what the heck is wrong with people these days, I believe what Barney always says, " I think he's a nut ". I'd say you are fortunate something bad did not happen.

When is the last time anyone saw one of these " JERK-OFFS " actually stopped & written up by one of our fine outstanding MSWP Officers ??????? I have not in years.

I live and fish the Cape Fair area and it is a rare occasion to see the water patrol boat stationed there out of the stall let alone see them on the water. Ever since the combining the water patrol with the highway patrol their presents on the water has been less. That's why these JERK-OFFS just don't get caught. What we all need to do is program the water patrol's phone number in our cell phones and call them when acts like that occurs just maybe the JERK-OFFS can be caught and let them fund our general state funds or schools.....

Maybe we should all get signs and put them on our boats to keep people away from our boats. Never mind, I'm guessing that will be the next proposal from the water patrol.  Out of curiosity, what is the law on being on plane near another boat, anchored or not?

BC, I sent you a PM.

I for one am behind & will support anything we can do to " SLOW DOWN & REMOVE " these people from the lake. I would like to suggest for example: present a video & the violators state boat ID # ( SOME DAMAGE WOULD HAVE TO OCCUR FOR THIS PART, BUT I AM ALL FOR THAT ) to a MSWP OFFICER & receive a bounty IE. JET-SKI $50.00, SKI-BOAT $100.00, WAKE-BOAT $150.00 & a gold star. We could put them on our outboard covers for all to see & warn them to stay away, venture closer @ your own peril. Looking for " A FEW GOOD MEN " !!!!!!!

Well in the defense of the last waterpatrol officer I encountered..... He pulled me over while I was in a 14' Grumman with a 20 hp tiller because my boat numbers were too close together.  I GUARANTEE YOU THIS IS A TRUE STORY! Last summer when I was working on a friends boat lift from the water. The good news is that I replaced the boat numbers and they are now legal distance apart. It would be interesting to see how many hours were spent patrolling before and after the change with combining.  It would also be interesting to see what the data is on ticketing for getting too close to another boat while on plane or running too close to a dock. If they are not going to enforce either, then what is the purpose of current state law?

Last time I had seen WP out of cape fair was in the spring a few months after the govna's decree was in place. Pair of MHP launching an aluminum. I was curious as to what they planned on doing with their jet powered sled and not the large glass boat they keep moored. So I asked them. They said that they were going up the James (Asher's) to check for permits (white bass run). I mentioned that they could've been closer and launched at Bridgeport. A moment of awkward silence between them. They then said that they wanted to check the area out from here on up. I thought okay what ev. Taxpayers flipping the fuel bill.

As much as one would think that more laws will help more. They always seem to effect the people that play by the rules anyway. We have trailer laws, yet everyday I see trailers without tags, no lights or some egghead hauling gravel on a flat bed. More restrictive boating laws won't help if they don't enforce the ones we have.

An excellent example.  More laws without enforcing current law. Put a "no wake sign on your dock" new law in place, but not enforce the law after it has been implemented. How many fisherman this summer had boats run too close, according to current law, but the boater was never pulled over.  In the case of Bobby b....... with the wakeboard boat running at night between him and the bank while fishing.  Current law states the boater was wrong, but the waterpatrol cannot be every where. Same as having a buoy. When the waterpatrol isn't available, then the buoy assists law enforcement.  Unfortunately, the waterpatrol and now the corp doesn't see it that way.  They are listening to the wakeboard boat captains, tuna rig captains and the ocean going vessel captains complain about buoys.
