The government has been fooling with different propellion systems in recant such as Ramjet. I do know that some of these engine  have tremendous potential. They would be flying stuff more like pocket planes than aircraft.Just got to wonder if that could not be connected do this in some way. To me it would seem to explain the sonic boom covering so much distance if in fact it is even a sonic boom and not some new phenomena.

Well the news of a fighter jet is a bit odd since air traffic control all initially reported that no aircraft capable of such speeds was anywhere in our vicinity at that time.    Are they not required to announce their flight path or able to be detected on radar ?   That's a bit troubling for anyone considering air travel isn't it ?   

Isn't air traffic control supposed to know about everything that's up there whistling around ?

For the air force to come in later and say "yeah that was us, we were just out for a test run",  is a bit of a WTF!
