Can you provide a phone number? Just wondering if they need more boats.

Oh they need boats alright.  Pretty new ones with plenty of horsepower and lots of insurance.

Wouldn't want a kid to start fishing out of a Jon boat or anything.  :P

Having been around several of these derbies you might be surprised. Saw them fishing out of about anything that would float.

On the flipside of what Dave said...there's usually a good showing of top of the line ($50k+) boats that Dad and Mom provide to make sure their kids have the very best.  The disparity is quite interesting to say the least.

Awesome to see anglers volunteering their time and boats to help get kids involved though.  I would do the same if I had the means. Great job guys!

Right. I'm kind of torn on the deal. It's one of very few HS sports/activities where success can depend so heavily on equipment.

On a day when the wind blows 30mph on TR, the kid fishing out of his dad or uncle's 20' glitter sled is at an advantage. Pure and simple. Basketball and football fields can be nicer, or more run down, but the dimensions are the same.

Doesn't mean it isn't a good pursuit. Just something to think about. Heck, it's an advantage my kids would have.

Just like on the football field or basketball gym or volleyball court equipment does not win. Does it give you an advantage? Sometimes. But just like every other sport, raw talent wins out more times than not.

Sure. And on a regular day ability is key.

But equipment will let you compete in the fishing deal. Tough to make a 20 mile run in 2 footers in a 16' tracker with a 40 horse (been there). Pretty doable in a big Ranger, Nitro, Phoenix, if you're willing to.

Whoever has Power Poles will win.  Doesn't hurt to have a Hydrowave either.  :P
