As of January 1, 2017, Missouri will become the 11th state to offer Constitutional Carry to its Citizens.  Any resident of Missouri that is of legal capacity to own or purchase a firearm will be legally allowed to carry a firearm concealed in areas that allow it.

There are still restrictions.  The major victory is there will be no tax involved to carry.  Previously, you were required to purchase a license every five years to do so.  This was a tax, plain and simple.  Now it is an option only if you want to carry in States that honor our Concealed Carry license.

There are still rules, laws, and areas that you have to know and obey.  The victory is that there is no tax required to do so in the State of Missouri as of 1l1l2017.

I don't like it.

I'm pro second amendment but I don't see where the issue is for having to have a little bit of training. The only reason this passed is because of a stupid bi partisan system that means you're either all PRO GUN EVERYTHING, GIVE THEM TO EVERYONE, or NO GUNS ALLOWED FOR ANYONE INCLUDING POLICE.

But it seems ridiculous to me that anyone can carry a concealed weapon without having to go through a little bit of training. Now it seems like a TON of people are going to end up carrying in waistbands instead of doing it right, training, getting actual holsters and knowing how to use the weapon.

This is so incredibly stupid. The more I think about it the more I get annoyed about it.

Ya, criminals will have one less worry (they wont need to get their ccw). Gangsters rejoice, no more renewing your license!!!!!!! Sheesh. this is a good thing law abiding citizens wont have to cough up 2 weeks worth of groceries in fees just to protect themselves. They also wont have to be put on a list saying that they carry. I for one applaud it, and will begin carrying Jan 1. The government (or anyone else) has no business knowing it. :)

I am sort of glad with the new law, and sort of not.  I too wish folks would get some training before they carry, but even with the permitting before the training was less about how to use your firearm than WHEN to use it.  Which I agree is extremely important, the theory was that you had to show a minimum proficiency in order to pass the class.  memory has holes in it but I think it was 20 practice shots and 20 "score" shots at 7 yards.  The instructor I went through the class with was/is a retired MSHP Sgt.  He spend a lot of time on the legalities of when you could legally draw or use a firearm.  The training of how to become proficient was and still is up to the individual.  There are a multitude of places around that a person can shoot for free, and likely with a little searching someone can find a "mentor" to help.  The law obviously will have zero effect on those who carry illegally.

Since the current rules have been in place since 2004, there has been no gunfights in the streets as far as I can tell by concealed carrying law abiding citizens.

The gangsters will still break the law no matter what, they did not apply for a license to carry in the last 12 years, they just carried illegally.  Probably with illegally purchased firearms.  True criminals, aka felons, will not be able to carry or purchase a firearm.  That did not change.  The laws are in place to keep criminals from owning and using firearms.

I do not disagree that individuals should learn about a firearm and become proficient with it before they attempt to carry one.

But, alot of the training courses were held just to satisfy the requirements to meet the taxation.  They did nothing to teach the proficient use of a firearm.  Its kinda like Hunters Ed Course, they don't make a really good hunter either.  They are just taking the course to get the license.  A Eight Hour Course will not prepare you for hunting or carrying a handgun for protection.

JD I agree, the class was simply to satisfy the legal requirements.  The hunter ed class is as well and I have been a hunter ed instructor for almost 25 years.  There are still the golden nuggets that we try to pound into their heads.

The appeal of concealed carry is it allows individuals to wax suspected criminals without trial, which of course violates their constitutional rights. It's not a matter of whether you like guns or hate guns, it's a question of whether you value the rule of law.  If they can qualify someone's right to a fair trial, they can qualify your right to own firearms.  Consider that as you celebrate.

There are plenty of laws in place to protect law abiding citizens from criminals.  Sad thing is, criminals do no pay attention to them.

Concealed Carry was not appealed, nor has it really changed as of Jan 1, 2017.  The tax is removed.  People who want to carry a firearm for protection can still seek training and knowledge to do so freely of their own accord.  There are still restrictions as to where you can carry a firearm.

The ability of a person to defend themself from a criminal has always been there.  The new ruling just helps protect victims from civil lawsuits when they have to protect themselves.  If someone shoots a criminal unlawfully, they will still have to deal with the legality of the matter.  There will still have to be proof that it was a justified cause for lethal action, the new law does not change that. It just offers more protection against civil lawsuits.

When someone commits a felony, they lose their Constitutional Rights for the most part.  They can't vote, own a firearm, or travel freely around the countryside.  The criminal loses some of their Constitutional Rights under the old system and still will under the new.

There was thos woman lived in the greto. A fine lady I assure you. Got sock and tired of the gangs and drug dealers. They were out  of control. She kind of cleaned up own her own. Was never bothered it was just another unsolved drive by. I was never present when she done nything so I do not know if is the truth. She died sometime back with cancer. So it will bever be solved anyway.

I can guarntee you however to me her actions were something I commend. These punks and thug get buy with murder. To me it is just just what they deserve.

I read the St Louis Post Disatch every day. the things going on in our urban areas make these type laws welcome.
