N9BOW Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 What would you recommend from today's crop of line offerings? My Jiggin rods are in need of some new line. Some are medium some are stiffer fast action rods. Plan to update all of them. I plan to put on braid and a fluoro leader. Just have not been in the market for line in a while and was looking for some suggestions on brands. looking for feedback and experience with whatever brands you might suggest. Thanks Eric
Seth Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I've been using 15# Power Pro and 8# 100% Trilene for a while now. It has done me well. Use an Alberto knot to connect them. Ham and grizwilson 2
Gavin Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Have been using the high-vis Suffix braids in 2lb diameter/6lb test on my spin rods for several years. Its way stronger than 6lb test, but does need a leader if you want to fish jigs with it. I'm not a fan of braid on bait casting tackle though. Ham 1

I will definitely be using a leader. how does this cast using light jigs on ultralight tackle?

I'm using a Pflueger President 6930x (130yds of 8# test) paired up with a 7'2" M/F 13 Fishing Omen Green spinning rod. I've got the green colored braid on my rod and regret not buying yellow all the time. I'd rather have the hi-viz stuff so I can watch my braid. It won't matter to the fish since you're using a fluorocarbon leader anyways. If you're using this on ultra light tackle, disregard what I told you. I thought this was for a 6-7' m/f spinning setup for bass fishing. The 6/2 stuff Gavin mentioned is what you need in that case. grizwilson 1
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 30lb braid straight to the jig for me. I have tried leaders and cant see a difference in bites.
Old plug Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 I use 10 lb braid on my crappie outfits. It handles really tiny jigs and lures well and gives me enough mustle to get most sngged jigs back. Putting leader with braid just creates a weak spot.
Quillback Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Where's Ham? Ham throws Nanofil (not really a braid), with a, I believe, Fluoro leader. I bet he's caught at least a couple of thousand trout on that set up.
Ham Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 I used braid before I got on the nanofil train. There are some advantages to braid over nanofil, but for me nanofil is a superior product. It casts further and breaks at close to listed strength. Trust me. On a river situation, there are times you want that line to break. i want the high vis line. I use chartreuse or white, but would be ok with any color as long as I can see it. It makes a difference. I catch a lot of fish by watching the line. I don't use Fluorcarbon line as my leader any longer. It is so picky about the knot you tie. I felt like I had some failures that where Fluoro related and never saw advantages. Im still using the Alberto for my line/ leader connection BUT I am playing with the triple loop surgeons know some as well. I'll never be able to tie it in less than 30 seconds in the dark, but it is easier to tie than the Alberto. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
