JohnP Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 I bought a Masterbuilt electric smoker last year with the digital read out and blue tooth to connect to the smartphone app so you monitor the temps and set timers. can also control the heat as needed. no messing with charcoal or gas. still learning it and don't use it much as I'd like but for what have done it love it. Backstrap from my boys doe smoked up on tuesday for him for a party he went to. 3 wild turkey breast from this past spring getting smoked up yesterday for today. tho1mas, Johnsfolly, MOPanfisher and 4 others 7
Johnsfolly Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 The backstraps look fantastic. I'm sure that the turkey will be great as well. Of course you can't go wrong with the bacon wrap.
David Unnerstall Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 I use a gas smoker that now only gets used for venison sausage now that I bought the Green Egg. But it gets too hot and the sausage will dry out if I don't shut it down and start it up on intervals -- which is a pain. I assume that electric smokers have a thermostat and would be easier to keep a constant temperature.
MOPanfisher Posted November 25, 2016 Author Posted November 25, 2016 David, that is what part of the problem was with the old gas smoker, in order to get it hot enough to make smoke I had to be very careful not to overcook the sausages and make them dry as a popcorn fart. I would usually end up "lighting" the bowl of shavings and hickory pieces to get the smoke going. Think it has been decided anyway for me, my wife texted me she is ordering the electric one for Christmas. Guess I will find out how well it works.
