Royal Blue Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 I've been using a Berkely Lightning Shock rod in 6ft9' medium action for awhile now. It was cheap, and it's been pretty durable. I upgraded to the next one up from berkely for another all around rod recently and I love that thing. It has a big ol butt and hybrid guides. For $80 it seems like a heck of a rod and I can't resist a big ol butt, I've been married for 20 years... abkeenan 1
Old plug Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 I and my neighbor fish together a lot. he has several St Croix rods. When we are fishing sinko type worms he is using a 7' med light action spinning rod and I am using a $39 Cherry wood the same size. I have used both several times. I must say I donot think there is a dimes worth of differance in the two. His St Chroix Does not recieve the punishment my Cherrywood does.
Royal Blue Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 They make a great rod for the money. I have a few Abu rods, veritas and veracity, and for the money I may grab another one of the Berkelys. They're solid. At some point I'll invest in a lighter weight rod like a Falcon, but these kids that I have are expensive! Daryk Campbell Sr 1

I use that rod because it is very easy to flip and pitch light weight sinkos behind a dock. i use 15 lb PRO braid on it. because of the mustle factor. I flip , pitch and skip it easier as well with no twisting. Admittedly using braid that heavy is not for everyone. You got to understand the limits of your setup. I can tell you on several ocasions though I have nearly wrapped that rod around a cable fighting a larger bass behind a dock. I base a lot of what I believe in rod prices on what I see in a local tackle shop. It does not seen to me that there is anymore failure in low prced rods or in high priced rods. Matter of fact what I see nearly all the time is angler failure to use the rod properly. Royal Blue 1
Bill Babler Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 There is usually a little more failure in the higher performing rods simply do to higher modular graphite thinner walls and less weight and material in the rod we always warned folks against bringing top of the line Orvis-Loomis and Sage fly rods to Alaska to horse Salmon with . Make the tool fit the job. Its hard enough to feel the bite on a wart some times especially when they push it. I want to feel my crankin bites Royal Blue 1 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Champ188 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 I ran across a deal on a rod recently that I won't identify right now, but it's a 7-2 finesse jig rod ... medium power, fast action, IM8. I'm thinking the extra couple of inches may give me a bit more casting distance. We shall see. If it doesn't work out, I'll either find something else to do with it or sell it for the little bit I have invested in it. I'll let you guys know how it works out. I'm also thinking that little extra bit of length will put Donna 2 more inches back toward the Mercury, therefore keeping that jig out of my "winding water." abkeenan, Flysmallie, Royal Blue and 3 others 6

You better be careful or she'll have you sitting on the bank. We know who's really in control in that boat. vernon 1

Flippin Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 That is brave talk coming from a man that fish's with his back to Donna. You might forget the new rod and consider investing in a mirror that mounts to the trolling motor.. Champ188, big c and abkeenan 3
