ollie Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 http://www.foxnews.com/great-outdoors/2016/12/07/1000-reward-for-catching-ugly-fish-from-wyoming-reservoir.html This doesn't make sense to me. If they are invasive, why would you tag some of them for a raffle later on? I can see offering a reward for everyone of them you caught, but why would you catch some only to tag them and hope they get caught later down the road? And a raffle? Why wouldn't you just tag them with different payment options for incentive? If I caught one with a tag and there was only a chance of a winning ticket I wouldn't be interested in it. I guess I think different than a lot of people. "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
fishinwrench Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Not to hijack, but the MDC should do likewise with feral hogs. Take all the money earmarked for the trapping nonsense and put a bounty on their heads. If evidence of a hog population meant a possible payday for someone who is out of work and has a gun, then the hogs could be eradicated with a quickness. I'm sure that for what MDC is preparing to spend on their trapping projects that the payoff for a truck bed 1/2 full of hogs would definitely be worthwhile to a hunter.

It didn't work when they tried to get rid of coyotes a few decades ago.
Jerry Rapp Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 once again Wrench has proposed a common sense possible solution to a problem that has everyone agrees is a problem. But it will never happen. Years of study and evaluation of trapping solutions are needed to keep the "experts" funded through their retirement. Daryk Campbell Sr and fishinwrench 2

They did that a few years ago with the smallmouth. The study worked well, it has almost eliminated the smallmouth in the small stream nearby that used to hold nice fish. They shocked the fish and put tags on them with different rewards. It became a game to see how much money one could make on a trip down the river. It also brought attention to the stream on a large scale, alerting the nation that it held smallmouth that needed managing. This led to more pressure on the stream. Then there were the giggers that had always worked their miracles on the fish. The bounty system in the name of research has turned a stream that I used to call "homewater" on here many years ago to a fishless expanse of water that is now home to more RV campsites along it than it can support. But that bounty was for research on how to improve the stream smallmouth....... Smalliebigs 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. It is a shame how things have worked out on that stream all in the name of data collection and job security....it pissed me off
