Took a vacation day from work to help my brother build a covered porch. Finished up with that by 11 a.m. and decided to try and catch a walleye or two. Put in at K Dock and started fishing the roll off of the flat to the main channel.  It was bright and sunny, very little to no wind, a lot warmer than it has been and water temps were right around 43 degrees.  1st cast, jerked the mega bass 110+1 down seven or eight times then let it sit. 8-10 seconds later gave it a little pop. Five or six seconds later, the line got heavy.  I set the hook and reeled in a nice crappie. Not what I was looking for, but not a bad consolation prize on my first cast.  Picked up three more big crappie and a bass on the jerk bait in the next hour and then switched to a swimming minnow. Caught a couple more keeper crappie then decided to head up to a brush pile in 26 feet of water on Snapp.  Ended up catching a total of 10 keeper crappie and 10-12 shorts by 3:30. Boat started running rough so I decided to head in rather than chance spending the night.  No walleye today, but the crappie sure did bite good. Smallest one I kept was 11 1/2 inches.

I greeted K-dock as the sun came up and worked it pretty hard for me.  I fished till about 1 PM.  Using the same baits as Dwayne did yesterday.  I caught 2 absolutely monster crappie on the stickbait.  The two will be plenty for Becky and I this evening.  I also had one very small walleye and at least 1/2 dozen bass up to 4 pounds.

Wasn't skunked but could have done better.  I did see something that was really interesting.  Along with a 1/2 doz. eagles there was a huge striper in the middle of the lake right out in front of K-dock.  It kept coming up and shaking and I knew it had a problem.  I motored out there and it was at least 35 pounds, maybe bigger as I don't judge the weight of stripers all that often.  He had a very big largemouth bass stuck in his throat with at least 1/3 of it handing out his mouth.  I'm guessing the bass was between 4 and 5 pounds, you would have had a hard time culling it in any derby on either Bull or the Rock.  He was going in circles on his side but he could still dive below my net handle.  I never did net him and I guess I should have just gotten out the camera instead of trying to capture him.  I messed with him for at least 3 minutes before he disappeared.

Good thing we all know they won't eat bass.

Good Luck

Forget your knee. You need to get your eyes fixed. No way could that have been a LM bass. Stripers only eat baitfish, not gamefish.
