After reading the story it hit me even harder. I recently told my mechanic that my steering wheel didn't feel right. I have 2 bolts holding my steering wheel on. He found that one was gone and the other was almost all the way out. This could have happened to me. I would say if anything doesn't feel normal when you are driving down the lake to get it checked immediately. Better to be safe than sorry.

Happens here several times every year. I think that cigrette boat thst dumped and killed those to guy last sping was 30-40 ft long.

Scary stuff there. Glad they weren't hurt. Lot of times people get knocked out or get concussions when their heads slam up against the gunnels, dash or other parts of the boat. At least ONE boat stopped to check on them....sheesh.

The "comments" below the video in the original post states that about five or six boats were stopped to help but were out of the camera's view.  Either way, it doesn't seem to me that the others flying by on plane and creating additional boat wakes could have been much help to the two guys trying to climb back in the bobbing and disabled boat.

I get not stopping and overcrowding the area but dropping back to idle speed until clear of the area would seem to me to be more appropriate.

Of course, hindsight usually is 20/20.  Either way, glad those two were OK and the video just might save somebody else's life.

I know I am checking the steering on the boat more often now!

I've been involved with take offs in narrow water ways before. When you are driving you get tunnel vision on what's ahead so you don't get involved in your own accident. Some of those guys are weaving in and out trying to pass slower boats. If anyone has been in a lock on a river knows what I'm talking about. When gates open it's chaos. 40 to 50 boats side by side trying to be first ones out. I backed off and let the crazies have at it.
