I guess I'd rather spend my time looking for/catching fish than tinkering with split rings. I've been fishing nearly all of my 56 years, and to my knowledge, I've never had a split ring fail. I will change them if the manufacturer puts on rings that are too big for the line tie. Otherwise, I connect to the ring with a small crosslock-style snap and go fishing. The snap gives you another hinge point to give the bait maximum action.

All of us are not close enough to TRL or other waters to easily, regularly get out on the water, so we spend some enjoyable time "tinkering" with our tackle, for me this includes making adjustments to baits as I like them to be.  What works for me may not work for you. Hope your systems work for you. Mine do for me.

Even if I never use em' mine are on the way!  Wouldn't be the first fishing related purchase I've made that never even got taken out of the package.

But, just like all those many failed acquisitions I can't wait to get em'!
