If you keep putting yourself in contention to win, you will win some day. If you are fishing a lake I may know something about, I'd be glad to share some info. I use FB quite a bit to connect with a lot of my fishing friends. Ed Dyer is my FB account name and my real name:) I just sent you a FB friend request.

Congrats on a job well done. Glad to hear you had three great experiences with your boaters. I had a couple in the Northern Opens that turned their back electronics around so I couldn't see them and purposely did not move the net to catch a jumping smallmouth on Lake Champlain. I bought some Damiki Shads  and jig heads to fish them here in Michigan, but will bring them to Table Rock this year as well, along with the Ned Rig! Thanks for the heartfelt post. We are always hurt when we are so close, but sometimes forget how well we really did in this type of competition. Good luck the rest of this year.

Seems like a lot of trouble to turn the back electronics around when they could just turn them off if they didn't want you to see them. Also kinda stupid to be shooting multiple transducer signals. If I'm drop-shotting or doing anything that requires a clear view up front, I turn off my other units.

One angler turned them off and the other turned them around.

Gee, that sounds like so much fun.  Yet another reason I don't fish tournaments.  The conversation and day long camaraderie must be downright heart warming sharing a boat with a guy that's doing everything that he can to PREVENT me from catching a fish.  Makes yard work sound inviting.

Never have fished one of those opens where you don't know who you are going to be in the back seat with, but I've heard a LOT of stories from people that have.  My informal guesstimate is that about 75% of those back seat experiences were good ones, and about 25% were really bad.  And the bad ones are so bad that they are funny in the retelling.

I've fished three events (2 BASS and one FLW) as a co-angler. I've fished with one guy that I wouldn't want to fish with again.

I get that they have a lot more skin in the game and that their focus is for them to catch fish. They are by in large not focused on me catching fish. They sure as heck focused on whatever advantage they can gain by me catching fish though. If I find a better option to catch one, they will have that bait tied on before you can get your keeper in the live well.

I caught fish behind every Pro I have fished with. None did anything to prevent me from catching fish, but none of them specifically set me up to catch a fish either.

I have fish in the back of the boat in  many /Costa, FLW tour and BASS opens over the years. 95% of the guys I have drew out with have all been super guys..and I have made some lifelong friends just by sharing the boat at a random draw tournament. Yes, there are some guys out there that have too much money and very little fishing knowledge and really don't belong in the front of the boat but hey, to each his own. If they don't have to qualify through a lower division and can just pony up the entry fee's and fish, that's just the game we play.

As far as the pro's turning off their electronics, I totally understand...if it's causing interference on their front graph. My 2nd day pro put his graphs on the console on standby after every move we would make. The couple times he forgot to, there was a ton of clutter and interference on both graphs. Turning the graph around to face the front of the boat is just weird though...never had anyone did that.

Thanka again to everyone on this board for the reports and the well wishes. See you on the water!!

I have never had anyone try to do everything they can to prevent me from catching fish...well, just 1 guy out of a bunch. And it was years ago on the Red river..the guy is in talking about is on the Bassmaster Elites.

Oh come on. Just tell us.

Congrats on your recent Open finish. I appreciate your positive attitude. I suspect that a Co-angler who starts the day with a pro on as positive a note as possible, goes a long way in setting the tone for a good day. Of course, there will always be the exception.

I'm only speaking from my own perspective.  I sure ain't got a problem with everybody else doing whatever they find enjoyable and entertaining.  I just have a hard time understanding the justification.

When I go fishing with my wife, my brother or an invited friend I KNOW I'm gonna have a good time 100% of the time.

If I want to spend money to learn something that's going to make me a better fisherman I'll pay Mr. Babler or Mr. Beck or whoever to actually help me and not compete with me. Again, that's a 100% proposition - not 2 outta 3 or 8 outta 10 or maybe they'll be a good guy.  I guess I like to hedge my investments a little.

I've long said that what ruins tournament fishing (again, just MY opinion) is these guys watch too much TV.  So far as being a "professional" and having "big money" at stake they'd have as good a chance of making it in the NBA.

Anyways, just me.  Now, GET OFF OF MY LAWN!!
