evilcatfish Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 This FG knot is definitely intriguing, might have to spend a little time practicing it this evening. For you guys using it, how well does it pass through guides? Seems a little bulky...

Doesn't hang and doesn't make noise. arsenal1477 and evilcatfish 2
arsenal1477 Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 The FG is a very strong knot. I can't say that I have ever had any issues with it going through the guides. You will break off at the hook/lure before breaking off at the knot. evilcatfish 1

I hated the knot going through my guides so always kept me leaders shorter, with the FG I tie them 6' long and they last a long time.
Old plug Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 I use 20 lb braid to fish wacky worms and several other lures on a 7 ft apinning rod. The reason is I want strength and small dia when skipping around docks. The Pro Braid bramd takes about as much 10 or 12 lb mono over cables. Spider wire braid on the other hand has proven itself to be junk in that application. I also use 10 lb braid on both my crappie outfits.
Basfis Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Albright all the way. I along with my son use braid exclusively on spinning gear. He gets more twist than I do and he tends to reel against a slipping drag where I try not to. Usually have a leader in excess of 5 ft which runs the knot into the guides every cast. Zero issues with the leader knot and ALWAYS wrap the braid over loosely folded over fluoro. Never ever never kink fluoro as a leader or even tying a palomar knot.

Jim Elam Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Nanofil 10 lb to InvisX 6 lb with FG for me. Jim "The obsessions of others are opaque to the unobsessed, and thus easy to mock...If we are lucky we all have at least one."
shrapnel Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 I promise all the Uni / Albright / Alberto knot fans haven't fished the FG knot. Those knots are thicker, and the weak spots in your lines every time, with the FG knot that is not the case I have never had one pull apart at the knot the line always breaks somewhere else. Alberto / Albright broke many times when pulling on a snag, at the knot. YMMV.
1farmer Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 When tying the fg knot, instead of holding the line with my teeth, I make four or five raps around my top shirt button to hold it. Those that wear jersey's will need to sew a button on . Daryk Campbell Sr, vernon and snagged in outlet 3 3
