M_Taylor Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 Hello guys, I'll be coming up this Friday from Rogers for a little getaway and staying at the Stillwater resort by the dam. I called today and they said their ramps are open for what that's worth. Im hoping to get some insight into what I should look for in order to get a bent rod for bass. I'm guessing all post spawn by now? I know the lake is up around some vegetation or was at least, is it worth looking shallow of is it better to get off the bank? I'll have my finesse gear ready but would love to be able to catch some other ways if it makes sense. Lastly, I'm always watching for debris, but is there much down that far right now? I appreciate any general insight and will gladly report after the weekend my results. My fishing will be mainly in the morning and evenings and within a 5 mile radius or so of the resort.
rps Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 Not post spawn. Few fish have finished spawning. Many are still on beds. Some are still holding. Ned, weightless senkos and flukes, slow rolled spinner bats, jigs with trailers, maybe swim baits. Some are in the flooded brush, most are on the edges. Think water 10 to 15 feet, but they are not necessarily on the bottom. dookie65 1
m&m Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 I agree with rps. Lots of fish in that area near points. Mike
vernon Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 Yep. Points for sure. We spent WAY too much time outside the box today trying to be cute or smart. As it has been (for us) two of the last three weeks it's been all about points and it was again today. magicwormman 1 "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." M_Taylor Posted May 10, 2017 Author Posted May 10, 2017 Thanks guys. Appreciate the help. Sounds like I have the right stuff in mind for gear. Curious is anyone is getting a crank bite going in the lower end of the lake. I love the wart bite and missed some time on the water when it was probably best.

A crank bait is not the best choice in flood conditions because you will struggle mightily to find places where it can can contact the bottom. Good luck on your trip. dtrs5kprs and Royal Blue 2

Good luck on your trip. And too early to start running something like a fat free shad along the edges of the deeper green trees. Maybe in a few weeks. Champ188 1
