MDC has said that the population of white suckers is really high in Taney, what could be done to reduce the populations? they can run large 2-6 pounds as adults..I have caught them in creeks fishing red worms on bottom in riffles....have not tried to eat them but have had canned suckers before cooked like a salmon patty good stuff!

any fish that could eat them would eat Trout as well me thinks but 500k northern pike would clean up the issue (as well as trout),,,,Ideas?

MONKEYS? what monkeys?

If I had my choice, I would take a mess of suckers fresh caught and scaled/filleted/ribbed/scored and deep fried over a trout every day of the week. It ranks up there just behind walleye and crappie in my opinion. We used to catch quite a few of them fishing crawlers and corn years ago, but that doesn't happen anymore. I could be wrong, but I think the popularity of gigging has reduced the numbers far below what they used to be.

I'm definitely not sure about filleting suckers.....

But I have seen some HOGS of suckers in some of the inlets on lower Taneycomo. Seen a few people bow-fishing 'em. Not sure if there is really a way of fishing them without killing them,  i'm not necessarily trying to do that. Cool fish though!

I caught this one on a marabou jig back in June. That would be hit or miss proposition. Of course you don't have to bet that you would eat your rod if you caught a sucker on a jig:rolleyes:

Seriously Seth is the guy on OAF that knows how to catch these guys consistently.

Good stuff! The fish structure almost looks like if a trout and a freshwater drum had a kid.... it would be a sucker! Haha
