Members Joenothum Posted June 23, 2017 Members Posted June 23, 2017 Just as a fyi to everyone, the Bass Pro outlet store has bins upon bins of mismolded and reject colors of senkos that you can buy for $6 a pound. They are not the best but I throw them from time to time and it hasn't really mattered a whole lot.
Old plug Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 I think the hook size and design is important. i know I and a friend bith use offset Octopus hooks size 03 and 04. I very rarely miss a hook up. Champ188 1
Seth Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 I use a size 1 octopus hook with a snell knot. When I get a bite, I just start reeling. 9/10 times the fish is hooked in the roof of the mouth and I rarely lose any. Sweeping hooksets to the side resulted in a bunch of lost fish. It was a hard habit to break, but it definitely improved my bite/catch ratio. Quillback and magicwormman 2

Mitch and his group certainly try thier best. I buy some of my stuff from BIG BITE BAIT through Tackel Warehouse out in Caifornia. I recently bought 4 bags of what they call Finesse Worms But at 8" I do not think they meet the discription. I also buy a worm from them called Kriet Worm. It is a monster worm even though only 10" long. I think there are at least 50 of these in my locker right now. The finesse worm has been very productive for me this seaon as well. The color selection of BIG BITE bait is not something for those of you who think color is everything. The bag of Finesse worms I had bought first at a store were something called Pumpkin blue swirl. They are about the nastiest color I ever seen, but they have done well for me. And there are more on the way. They cost me $3.61 a bag of 7 minus shipping. big c 1

I seal them up with a lighter before I go and they last real well. I just bought a pack of 3/8" clear shrink tubing. That stuff is going to work great for wacky worm rigging. Snugged it down with a heat gun around the middle of the worm and unless the worm breaks it's not going to be the hook that does it. Can't even tell it's on the worm with it being clear. magicwormman 1 -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

You don't go through them nearly as often. I've tried the o-ring method of rigging and I still prefer the shrink wrap. I'd guess 10-12 fish per senko is about the norm with the shrink wrap. So I tried this out. I got some 3/8" clear shrink wrap, used a heat gun to shrink it so that it was snug against the middle of the worm, hooked my mosquito hook through the shrink wrap and a little of the worm and then not once but twice got bit and poof, no worm. Reeled I back in and all I had was my hook and the shrink wrap. Never had that issue with the o-rings or hair bands. It those tend to tear the worms in half after a few fish. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

The last heat shrink that I bought wasn't nearly as stiff as the stuff I had before and I was having the same problem that you are having. I ended up "double bagging" the heat shrink and that helped out a lot. Melt one piece in place, slide another of the same size in place and melt it on top of the other piece of heat shrink. The stuff I had before this batch worked with just one piece. The bait shouldn't need to be replaced until you catch enough fish that it just breaks in half and that is usually after at least 10 fish. magicwormman 1
JF660R Posted July 14, 2017 Posted July 14, 2017 So, the Ned is about the extent of my finesse game and I'm looking to add some wacky and drop shot to my skill set. I looked at Stick-Os yesterday at BPS but couldn't make a 50 pack commitment to any of the colors I saw. I've become pretty attached to PBJ, but in the back of my mind know that throwing everything in a single color can't be a good strategy. Does Wally World carry Yum Dingers? Or anything that would save me another BPS trip worthy of wacky rigging? Or maybe I can hit the Lew's store today... sounds like watermelon red flake might be a good option? https://www.facebook.com/pages/Nocturnal-FabWorx/346443168872812 Like Nocturnal FabWorx on Facebook
