Crazy that folks here don't care for a jigging spoon.   A white or cole slaw flavored war eagle flat puts em in the boat for me.  Thats my first choice usually. Also whites, walleye, drum, and even catfish are suckers for em.  Just shows how many different ways there are to catch fish.

Champ188, your getting old enough that a spoon or carolina rig should be your lures of choice. They are the two techniques that require the least amount of energy to catch fish.

That's part of the problem - if we ain't moving around and expending energy then we just fall asleep!

A spoon is deadly on just about any species that feeds on live bait. Probably the most effective bait ever contrived.

But back in the 80s and 90s, I spent a lot of long guide days dropping spoons when there were more entertaining ways to catch them if my clients had been able to do so.

So when I'm able to choose, I just don't often choose a spoon.

I agree.....spoons, blade baits, and the like, are about the best overall bait there is.

I keep hoping I get old enough one of these days to stop getting mad when my fishing buds want to go home after a mere 8 hours. Or stop wanting to play a full round of golf after working 4 AM to 2 PM outdoors in the heat. Not there yet.

Yup.

There's fishing and then there's "spoon fishing".

To which I usually say, "Fore!"

I think you guys are missing the boat! There are times when the spoon is UNBELIEVABLE! There are lots of folks that are old school and resistant to change. The dropshot and spoon are two good examples. I'm Like Babler, give me a better mouse trap and I will use it! Remember this, if old Charlie Davis can win a boat on the Bull using a spoon, it ain't all bad.

Aw, I've done it and caught fish doing it but just don't find it appealing.

There's lots of different ways to make money too but some of those jobs never sounded like how I wanted to spend my day.
