RSBreth Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 I have never back-reeled, either. I did start out on good Diawa reels though. Every reel is different, so you may need to experiment with different line sizes and types for ANY reel to get it to work trouble-free. I have said way too many times that if I had to go back to using mono for spinning reels I'd stop using spinning reels. P.I.T.A. factor is way too high. Superlines are the way to go, and then just argue about leader/no leader.

timinmo Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 If you are casting with your right then switching hands you would fit right in with the back reelers.

The same as I do with a baitcaster. Most everyone does, do they not? Why would it be any different just because the reel is on the bottom ?
Mitch f Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 I switch hands with a baitcaster and not a spinning reel. With a spinning reel I crank with my left hand. I wish I could re-learn to do it that way with my baitcasters. Johnsfolly and timinmo 2 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

Just don't reel against the drag and all is well. I don't hardly ever do it, because I rarely fish a spinning rod, but even when I do, I don't back reel often. I guess it stems from growing up with a drag system I could never quite trust because of inconsistency. You get a real hard puller like in that video I showed you from Minnesota. If he's right at the boat, with not much line out, that's when I would use it. timinmo 1 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

Anyone drop shot with their baitcasters? i cuerrenty use a drop shot rig with a bait caster about 99% of my time., It is not for everyone though. It can be very frustrating. Mitch f 1
Members Whiteriver Posted August 4, 2017 Members Posted August 4, 2017 Maxima----Maxima monofilament is the toughest line I've run across and the lines I use need to be pretty tough. Most of the time my line is running across logs, rocks, and other obstructions on the Norfork and White and Maxima has always been strong--it can tangle a little, but I can deal with that compared to it's abrasion resistance.
