I certainly don’t wish harm on anyone but give me a stretch of river with a shoal that can’t be passed without kissing a rock or a tree that you must slide under or jump over and I’m in paradise.

Everyone has a right to use a public waterway, but there should be restrictions on the amount of noise created by a vehicle using the river. If your driving a car without a muffler you are subject to a fine. The same thing should apply to the the river or the woods.I remember in my younger days some dirt bikes were ripping around public woods with no mufflers  and now you can't use them in most places.  A couple people ruined it for everyone. Last weekend on the river some of those boats were loud like dragsters. If past experience is any indicator, eventually the state will limit areas where these boats can go, and later it will ban use altogether. Not a good outcome since the the majority suffers for the acts of the few.

I thought there was a decibel limit placed on boats.  Seems like it was 165 db.

We cut out the upper Current all the time and have got nothing but thanks from the authorities

It's a lot less than 165db.  That is as loud as a 747 at take off. LOL

There is a state law on how loud boats can be though.  And they are required to have mufflers, which a lot of those jetboats don't have as they have open headers sometimes.  From the Missouri Boating Laws and Responsibilities handbook, page 42:

Mufflers

A motorboat’s engine must have a factory-installed muffler or

exhaust water manifold for noise reduction or another

effective muffling system.

■

Motorboats built on January 1, 1996, or later must not

exceed a noise level of 90 dBA when stationary at idle and

measured from a distance of 3 feet.

■

All motorboats must not exceed a noise level of 86 dBA

when measured from a distance of 50 feet.

■

You may not remove or modify a muffler or muffling system

if the result is increased noise level.

■

If the exhaust system uses water for muffling, it must

comply with the noise level restrictions.

That's interesting, when I'm on a river and I hear I distance sound I usually ask myself, is that an airplane or a boat coming? My next thought is typically why did I come here?

I guided a few times on the upper Meramec and floated it many times. i loved that river very much. when .i returned a few years ago I spent about 15 minute on the banks below Onandaga. All I can say is you all or NEVER will see orknow the river I knew. It makes me sick to my stomach to see what people have done to that river. I can only imagin how much worse it is going to be.

Well obviously that set of regulations is not enforced and should be.
