ftGbIyw8-1749506285.thumb.jpg.d650e8dba8ea28f4f7eb0584de4924e1.jpgI was wasting a little time tonight setting up a couple buzzbaits and thought that I would share what I do. I hope it helps someone set up theirs or have someone share their tips to help me.

To me - the most important part of a buzzbait is the squeak or chirp that it produces, and the louder the better, as it churns up the water.  The rivet that holds the blade on is rounded, so I flatten it out to the blade with some needle nose pliers. With it flat against the blade there is more surface area to rub together. You can see it flat in the top picrure if you zoom in. The second picture shows how the  rivet is rounded from the factory.

I crimp the rivet to the arm so it does not spin with the blade. The blade rubs against the rivet and makes more noise. My neighbor told me to do that. It seems to help.

I then put one drop of Clorox bleach between the blade and the rivet to help speed up the corrosion process. I read in some artical that it helps increase the volume of the squeak. I don't know if it does or not, but I do it.

If you have any thoughts or different methods to preparing buzzbaits - please post them.

Well, I wanna send you in a different (better) direction with the choice of what you are starting with, but I know there are several Lunker Lure lovers around here so I'll keep it to myself and just invite you to join me in an evening buzzbait fest here on my end of LO before the BBB happens.

Just lemme know (few days notice) when/if you wanna do it.

I do like the Lunker Lure, but I do use others as well. I am very interested in taking you up on your fishing offer. The next few weeks are hectic for me, but will pm you later!!

Great info.  I crimp and then hold the bait outside of the truck window while driving down the highway letting it spin at high RPM to help "seat" the blade against the rivet for max contact area and grind.

Or tape it to the mirror bracket for a spell...

My biggest hangup with the LL baits is this type of blade. ftGbIyw8-1749506285.thumb.jpg.d650e8dba8ea28f4f7eb0584de4924e1.jpg

instead of this type of blade Screenshot_20170920-005120~2.png

The latter comes to the surface quicker, tracks straighter, has more wire contact...so it squeals and rattles more, and the blades are typically thinner/lighter which allows you to use a bulkier trailer without rollover issues.

The old school dock fishermen used to want a buzzbait that tracked to the side.....but WHICH SIDE?    If your shade is on the left side and your bait tracks left then your screwed.  That old line of BS didn't hold water anyway because as soon as the blade hits the dock floats....guess what?  It ain't spinning no more.  I want them to track straight so I can depend on casting accuracy instead of compensating for "prop walk" to get my bait where I want it.

That boy that y'all were talking to about raising and eating Spotted Bass... I'll let ya in on a little known secret here....That dude is a freakin buzzbait master.  If you wanna take a class on buzzbait mastery you need to go fishing with HIM a few times.  His Trailer Hook philosophy has some serious holes in it, but other than that he is seriously bad news with a buzzbait rod in his hands. 😁

What about the skirts. Any preferences? And i actually tried the "naked" style on the river and caught some fish on it. Naked meaning no skirt. Instead i used a culprit jerkbait and i have seen them with all kinds of different soft plastic trailers.

Wrench, was wandering if you have used the swinging sugar  buzz by strike king and if so your thoughts on it. Supposed to run straight and come to the surface quickly and not roll to the sides.
