I have an 87 Ranger that is just as good at catching fish and a 02 Silverado that gets me to the lake and home again. Yeah, I can't make sense of any of that. I could easily redesign a 65k boat/motor/trailer, making it far less expensive, MORE reliable, easier to maintain, longer lasting, and just as pretty, with absolutely no loss of performance. The same could be done with trucks. Why there is no market for that, is simply because....none are offered.

Because they have crash standards to keep us from getting hurt while we drive with our lattes and phones and laptops. We also cant pollute with 2 strokes and engines that last 30 years, and diesels that cant smoke due to the endangered spotted Wasu Chicken. You cant check you oil or add oil to your gas because we are to stupid to check for ourselves it has to be done for us. Customer brought a vehicle in that they drove 4500 miles since their last oil change, not excessive by any means, saying engine making noise under a load, 4 quarts low on oil 5 qt system. I was taught you check oil and fluids once a week as part of having privilege of having a car to drive. Maybe I am to old or my parents screwed me up but people today are reliant on others for basic things that I do not see how they do not do for themselves. Engineers engineer cause they cant do it, Biologist do what they do to make themselves feel good, and all the while look down on people who work a skilled trade and look down on us for no being as smart as they cause they learned from a book.

Its not done with trucks because despite what you guys think that market doesn't exist to offset a higher end truck. Every single person that says I want a plain jane truck, no bells and whistles, is already driving a 20 y/o truck and consistently buys on the used market, not the new market(FWIW I'm right in the middle of this market with you guys). Even if a mfg brought out a truck like we want it wouldn't be the mass seller you think it would year over year. It might crush sales 1 or 2 years but guys like us aren't swapping for new trucks every 3 or 4 years(heck even fleet trucks are getting away from this). There's far too many people running around in 3/4 ton, 1 ton, and diesels without gooseneck hitches and without trailers hooked on. That right there should tell you all you need to know about the "truck market".
tjm Posted May 28, 2021 Posted May 28, 2021 Light trucks are designed to look like and be like luxury cars because the people that buy them never haul anything but kids and toys. When is the last time you saw a pickup with a stock rack? or a one ton with grain sides?

Yeah, to hop in one with dirty clothes, dirty hands, or muddy shoes would be like taking a poop in the front room of the governor's mansion.

I agree to many people buying trucks and using them as "cars". I use mine a truck, I take care of it and clean it but if I am hunting and get mud in it so be it, if I am fishing and get water in the floor it is a truck. It forces the price up on what those of us that require a truck have to pay to get one, as well as the government requiring bull**** safety features to protect us from stupidity. Tire pressure sensors in tires all because people bought Explorers that had no idea how a truck rode and drove. They lowered the air pressure in tires to make it ride smooth like a car, then an emergency occurs and they try to correct or drive around it, they roll due to tires not being inflated correctly. Firestone tires get blamed and are still dealing with a bad reputation for nothing that was their fault. Now we have a sensor in tires that are $90.00 each and a module that controls them so they work.
tjm Posted May 28, 2021 Posted May 28, 2021 You guys are going to talk me into restoring the '85 F250.

That is why my 87 Ranger got a new trolling motor, new cover, is getting new upholstery and carpet. Next spring I am redoing the top cap. Still cheaper than buying a new one and will catch just as many fish. m&m 1
