Unless you have a Garmin that has the Quickdraw Contours. It's pretty slick and makes a very accurate map of the bottom you are trolling over. I used it a little at Council Bluffs since my stock maps don't have contours of that map and it gave me a pretty cool map. I could burn up alot of gas idling around with that.

It gets a pretty wide swath with each pass. You could probably get the end of the Gravois and the Little Gravois in an evening, at least out from the bank enough where the fishing is good. It handles a pretty good speed too, probably 10mph or so before it starts breaking up. fishinwrench 1 -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Gavin Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 Moguy, what unit do you have? Have been wanting a good unit with mapping capability for Canada next year. No maps available at all for most of those lakes.

Pretty lake for sure, but after about 2 weeks of its' opening back in the early 80's it has sucked. Dink fest, maybe a decent fish or two every once in a while since then. A local club holds tournies there from time to time. Five unders weighing 4+ usually wins. But for those first two weeks back in the 80's when it opened, it was like fishing in a rain barrel.

They're using pre-impoundment cartography, so the chances of those contour lines accurately depicting the bottom aren't going to be good in many places. But for the low cost that's good enough for some. Garmin's lakevu hd ultra maps give you 6" contour lines generated by their survey boats within the last few years using scanning sonar, and the ability to color shade different depth ranges is pretty killer... you just gotta pay to play. CONNOR The Lake os going to be 100 yrs old iin a little over a decade. I have mich doubt in anything acurate on a map that wass made before the lake ws built. There are sp many fosh holding changes out there I really have no need for it. conorsixtakc 1
