MoCarp
I was asked another thread what the American Carp Society was all about why was it even needed so many carp everywhere and all, they used to say that about ducks and buffalo perhaps a little history about another groups goals and with old photos show what motivated these people to actions.. Punt guns used to be legal and 50-100 ducks could be killed it a single shot..... In 1937, Knapp, Robert Winthrop, and a small group of conservation philanthropists decided to focus on the decreasing waterfowl populations, and the habitat necessary to sustain them in Canada, and formed Ducks Unlimited Inc. Now Ducks Unlimited is an American nonprofit organization 501(c) dedicated to the conservation of wetlands and associated upland habitats for waterfowl, other wildlife, and people. It has maintained a worldwide membership of about 700,000 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ducks_Unlimited FelGirl87 1 MONKEYS? what monkeys?
MoCarp
passenger pigeons also were hunted with punt guns,...the giant doves were said to blacken the sky with flocks numbering in the millions. habitat loss and over harvest drove them to extinction...however some unsubstantiated sightings are said to have been made in recent years attempts to clone them from stuffed example are being made MONKEYS? what monkeys? BilletHead
To make sure not to repeat the sins of our forefathers. You know like the introduction of non native invasive species like carp. BilletHead so you say we should tear out all the dams, and take out butts back our native lands? Brown trout are not native and are invasive as are rainbows east of the rocky mountains, west of the rockies largemouth bass are listed as invasive. hate on carp all you want but be an equal opportunity hater if your are, if not you lose any credibility you have....carp are wonderful sport to catch, big powerful and hard to fool..what happened? get your gear all busted up by a lowly carp? That a girl! Passion for you sport. I am telling you MoCarp this may be a match made in heaven. Nice to see you have reinforcements coming. Marry this gal and have a carp themed wedding. Spend your honeymoon in Europe catching carp in their native country! Awesome ! Send photos please . Native please and not in stocked fed fish ponds. Just like your friend you have no idea as you read what you want. Where do the BilletHead's prefer to fish and what for? Natives in their respective native habitat. Have said that before. Have you read that? Do I hate carp? No, I just hate what they have done. Do I fish for carp? Yes with a fly rod without bait. Caught many carp by spot and stalk. Not by sitting and chumming. Want a wary fish? Please also show us your fishing trophies. No cut and paste please we want you and your fish not others from the internet. Do not whatever you do tell us where you caught them as there are unscrupulous bow fishermen out there that will ruin your spot. Do I want dams removed? In places yes it would be a good thing. Can't here now. Some things cannot be undone. What does this mean? " and take out butts back our native lands?" I am not sure how to answer this? Do we get an invite to the wedding? The BilletHead is a proud life member of trout unlimited, a yearly member of Ducks unlimited. Hey I was even a member of the national trappers association and the Missouri trappers association when we gave money to "Bring them back to Missouri" Otter program ! Otter haters hate me too they were native before us . I will draw the line at becoming a member of Carp unlimited or Zebra mussel unlimited or Asian carp unlimited or silver carp unlimited or bighead carp unlimited or New Zealand Mud Snail unlimited. Have I forgot anything? I may join Spoonbill unlimited just to mess with my Buddy Fishing Wrench, BilletHead tjm and Greasy B 2 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" If it will make wrench squirm sign me up! Might not do the hybrid club. I might get bashed because it is non native. Well maybe half of a membership because half of that frankinfish is native., BilletHead "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" SpoonDog
Oh no, I completely understand the conservation value groups like DU and others have, generally. I'm curious what conservation value the American Carp association has. I guess I should've been more specific. 11 minutes ago, Flysmallie said: I just joined the Bowfishers Association. BilletHead
Nice! I am glad you are keeping this along the line of an organization. We must be careful not to hijack and change or manipulate the thread. I know I m going to be more careful doing this. Do you need and bowfishing arrows Ronnie? I still have a bunch from my bow fishing hey day. Some of these are promised to MoPanfisher but you can have some also. Along this line I was a member of NFAA (national field archery or United Bowhunters of Missouri, Chigger digger bowhunters, White oak bowhunters. Won some bowfishing tourneys when Belonging to the Chigger diggers. Oh those were the days! When there were no limits on carp, buffalo and gar. We used to load a full sized pickup bed to over flowing with legal fish. Spread them into farmers fields to fertilize. They were happy and we were happy and the crops flourished!
