I know this thread has gotten way off course but I just wanted to add some more info to the original conservation about turn over (destratification). This is from Bull Shoals Lake but I bet readings would be very similar to TR. This data was collected by the Twin Lakes Walleye Club at Point 5 on Bull Shoals Lake. The first reading was taken on Oct 9th. At that time, the thermocline was around 35-40 feet deep. The club then took readings on Oct 23rd, again at Point 5. At that time., it appears the lake was in the process of turning over in that area of the lake. You can see the thermocline was now at 65 - 70 feet deep. Finally, the club took readings yesterday (11/9). You can the process of the lake turning over was complete at Point 5.

I hope this helps people visually see what is meant by the lake turning over.

Thanks,

Jeremy

C'mon Mojo, that doesn't have anything to do with Patty Benjamin or even Holly Benjamin for that matter!

You're gonna get everybody all confused with this "on topic" crap!

(pretty good stuff though, thanks) ;)

It does not confuse me. They took these soneplace permanent reading that fine a good for that spot.   shallow bays, flats and other places mightvbeca dfferent trmperature at a given depth than these charts show. I can just see some people at the chart thinking they got to fish by it.  Up here at LOZ where many of us tend to watch what the fish do from season to season and day to day do not need a bunch of grafts Winter bass fishing for example. We know there are warm places caised by the sun and that is what were looking for. not some chart that tells me nothing really about where the fish are active.

Old plug,

You are correct that readings will differ depending on where you taking the readings. The TLWC actually takes readings from 5 to 7 different spots around mid to lower end of the lake. I just included one spot because that is the only spot they do everytime they are out. Most of the time they all do vary some. I will say the main purpose of collecting these readings is to help the club monitor where the thermocline is and the deep pocket of oxygenated water where walleye inhabit during the summer months. They then pass the info along to us.

I would also agree that anglers shouldn't base their fishing trips solely on these readings. We all know fish don't always follow what we think they should.
