Stein Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 So, after building my first trout boat, after talking with people here on the forum and at JigFest I think it's time to build another one. This is going to be a smaller boat for smaller rivers. OK, really I'm building a boat for floating the Buffalo. I have been updating the dimensions on the plans to give me a boat that is 34" wide on the floor and 16'6 long. The length is a result of the bottom being limited to two sheets of plywood and only one joint in the center. I'll have to scarf the sides from three pieces as they will be slightly longer than 16' but that will allow me to stagger the joints away from the joint in the floor. The rest of the build will be pretty much the same as my previous boat. I'm going to eliminate the transom knees and the doubled rear ransom to reduce weight as much as possible. I shouldn't need either of those two modifications on a low powered boat. Targeting a finished weight of 150 lbs. That may be optimistic but should be close. The plan is essentially a float-only boat with the exception of a two stroke 4hp motor that I already have at home. It will primarily be used to be able to get from the mouth of the Buffalo back to Buffalo City ramp. After seeing how the 9.9 pushes the 20' boat I think the 4 hp should move it upstream ok, barring ridiculous flows. I'm planning on no trailer for this boat, just a pickup hitch bed extender when using this boat by itself or setting it inside of my 20' boat when wanting to use both boats. Should nest inside of the other boat just fine sitting on some strategically spaced foam blocks. Should start construction within a week. Deadstream, Daryk Campbell Sr, Flysmallie and 3 others 6
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 Looking forward to it. I plan on building one in a year or two. Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. (me) I am the master of my unspoken words, and the slave to those that should have remained unsaid. (unknown)
dan hufferd Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 How are you liking your place on bull? The wife and I are thinking we might do that too. The recent years of high water have made us take pause.

The recent years of high water have made us take pause. Still happy with the purchase. Location is perfect, right between the river and the lake. I keep catching myself checking Zillow and I still haven't found one that I wish I would have purchased instead. I do need to quit looking - eventually something will trigger buyer's remorse! The high water hasn't bothered me because I still have the river in any lake condition. dan hufferd 1

Gavin Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 Could measure my paddle jon if it helps. Picked it up from a board member. There is some good pictures and information in his buy sell posting.

The plans are detailed for the original boat as designed, just need to adjust some dimensions for each piece so that it all works together. Pretty much done with it.

We sold an investment and my boss said, ‘Take that one off your monitor. It’s like an old girlfriend...you wouldn’t keep a picture of her on your desk.’ Be happy and quit looking for something to make you second guess your decision. 😄 I’m looking forward to seeing pictures of this build. grizwilson Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Well, I have a few rivers in mind.... Having fished out of your current rig a few days, this one should be an excellent craft for the smaller waters. I am sure you have learned from the first build, which I find flawless, I know many are impressed by your attention to detail, fine boat. Can not wait to see this one take shape, not to mention fish out of it. Happy New Year my Friend!
