dnj21 Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 I haven't fished down there in over 10 years now, every year I say I am going to do it again but never get out. We fished in the big bay north of Cancun with spinning equipment and jigs, had a fabulous time. Wife absolutely kicked my butt, which our guide loved since I was talking about all the fishing I did back home. Caught Sea Trout, Barracuda and a few others. Really enjoyed it. Swimming tip for the resorts if you want to see the fish: Spray Cheese! You Tube it, definitely works. Next time we do it, we will bring some of our catch back and have one of the seafood restaurants cook it for us. Normally go to Akumal in October, plenty of opportunities abound down there......
snagged in outlet 3 Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 There's great bonefishing, snook and baby tarpon right there in Cozumel. Only marginal in Nichupte and Isla Blanca. Been to all 3 many times at different times of the year.
Gavin Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 Snook just love topwater plugs. Tarpon will eat them too. Little bait fish & shrimp imitations are effective too. They will run the trough within a couple feet of the beach if you want to sight fish for them.. Ham 1
snagged in outlet 3 Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 Look at the inner bays on the north end of Cozumel and you can mangrove fish for all 3 in knee deep water. All of them will run the beaches, especially in the summer months. Outstanding Jack fishing on the northern beaches of Cozumel year round. I should have knocked that off my fly rod list since I've netted a bunch for others but I've never caught one. Ham and Gavin 1 1
KCRIVERRAT Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 Heading to a place between Akumal and Tulum end of Feb. Gonna spend a day or two on the water. Fished Cabo a couple of years back. Wife had a Striped Marlin on but lost it at the boat. Every time I have deep sea fished it's been during the winter which is not the best time most places in the northern hemisphere. But it sure as hell is the best time to get the hell outta' the cold up here! grizwilson 1 HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
Ham Posted January 4, 2018 Author Posted January 4, 2018 Not gotten any fishing in yet. I hope to go tomorrow. Give me a kayak and the right gear here, I could have had a blast. snagged in outlet 3 Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Aquarius is a good guide company there. I've used them for years. Filthy with bones. Ham 1
