I wouldn't want one for a few years.  It just might be like the first Optis that they put out;

Yeah :rolleyes:

A catalyst, that's exactly what they need.

This will not be a “cobbled-up” engine and it will be an engineering prototype that will be developed as a production intent design. Mercury will build the lowest emissions four-stroke outboard marine engine ever built.

Pumping the exhaust into the water filters it out just fine.

I agree with Wrench on this as being a load of BS, they have ruined small compact loaders with this emissions crap. A marine engine with this will be a horrible idea.

I agree it's a terrible idea...

What you have here is a bunch of engineers making work for themselves.

If they wanna do it on the bigger motors (above 100hp) that's fine, but for the love of all things PLEASE leave the little motors alone !    The amount of BS being incorporated into 15-50hp outboards is rediculous.

The amount of hours put on the average lawnmower is far greater than the amount of hours put on the average outboard motor, so if it's all about clean air then why aren't they doing the same to them?   I'll tell ya why, because they know that NOBODY is gonna pay 10k for a friggin' lawn mower unless they are using it commercially and it is capable of paying for itself.

I ran a 4 gas analyzer on a  5 horse briggs and stratton lawn mower and it put more stuff out then my V8 car motor did...lol

I've got a 2017 Dodge with the Cummins motor.  After 15,000 miles the tailpipe still looks new.  That's clean burning.  I breathe this air and so do my kids and grandkids.  Anything we can do to slow down how fast we screw up the planet is fine by me.
