BilletHead Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 Down to the last two days of duck season, Time for Mr. and Mrs. BilletHead to wrap it up together. I knew there were few around in BilletHeadVille and was wanting to give the geese a break. We would be setting up at a small pond between a big field with another pond where the birds were feeding and a loafing pond where they rested during the day. The birds had a routine but a few would be sitting here off and on throughout the last few days when I would drive by. Was really hoping we could take a few and we did. Yesterday we took five, In the edge of our duck decoys I added a few goose floaters and it paid off for this morning, Another duck season has come and gone. More quality time with Mrs. BilletHead. Although the numbers taken by us were not as good as last season because of the lost time in our area due to the big freeze and lock up of our hunting area. We got some fine eating to dine on. Fresh mallard yesterday . It is really sad pulling decoys on the last hunt that and not hearing the plop as you have thrown them out many times before. We never know when that last hunt will be. Anything can change between seasons. I know some of you guys have retrievers. You have your golden, yellow, black and chocolate varieties. I shot a picture for you guys of mine. She is a fine one. A gray haired retriever. She is house broke, very little shedding, obeys simple commands , doesn't bark either, BilletHead JohnP, Ron Burgundy, Deadstream and 4 others 6 1 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" tjm Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 I bought the permits, but never hunted this season. Don't really think many ducks got this far south, at least I didn't see enough to get me excited.
JohnP Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 Looks like a fine way to wrap up the 2017-2018 duck season. Didn't get out near as much as I'd liked to but the times I did they were memorable. Time to put the gear up for the season and get into full on fishing mode ;). BilletHead 1

Seems there is no rest between seasons anymore. Just think it will be teal season in eight and a half months . mhowerton Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 That is an awesome way to end the season. We had an excellent two week stretch on the bigger lakes and rivers right after Christmas due to the extreme cold. It was the best season in awhile. My retriever definitely earned his keep this season. Im also already looking forward to teal season. Johnsfolly, Deadstream and BilletHead 3
DADAKOTA Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Still have to stack the rest of me dekes in the garage. Hunted more than I have in years. Might be my best season ever. Lots of memories laughs with my Son and various buddies made it a truly great season. C'mon snow geese. Johnsfolly and BilletHead 2
